Ya Duc, thats a markam or some after market bar.
it is much lighter duty than the JD Bar. thats the kind i want.
easy to remove and install....;)

When i saw that picture. I thought KennyD was at your house....:D

Chris...:)

cant remember where or when I got (year 2000 ?) it but its solid and will never break - I dug out stumps this size with it (pre-backhoe days) with a smaller machine (but very capable)

Can I get some of you lucky tooth bar owners to post pics? There is some debate with myself and another person that the CAST FORGED teeth are much better than the WELDED teeth. It appear like the Markham bar has welded teeth and not cast. I have attached three pics. Once is the Markham, the other is from United Steel Works and the other is from Yankeewarehouse. The only one that looks like the high-end toothbars offered by Bobcat it the forged United Steel Works unit. What do you guys think?

I would be greatful if you toothers could post some pics!!

Your a worrying to much...The Markham toothbar has welded on shanks, and replaceable teeth. It is a proven design that will take more abuse than your tractor can ever dish out;)

If you do go for a new toothbar 7 teeth work better than the standard 5. Just need to specify when ordering. It does cost more.
Don't mean to highjack this thread - but instead of starting a new one.....

I've read just about every post on TBN about tooth bars, and am ready to order one - going with the Markham Welding bar.

Just want to be sure I get it right.
I emailed Melissa with a couple questions - one of which was asking how many teeth would be on a 53" bar. She replied with "approxametly 5 teeth". She also gave me a price on extra teeth.

I remeber your post EdC about getting 7 teeth, and that seemed to make good sense to me. I will be using the tooth bar mostly for brush removal, and also some landscaping work.
I just want to be sure that I am not going over board with ordering 7 teeth on a 53" bar - I always come back to the saying "be careful what you wish for".

I think 5 teeth for a 53" is fine, I attached a older shot of my 61" bucket with 7 teeth

I just talked to Barbra at Markham and they got an order of teeth in today (Tuesday). I got my order in early in the week so she indicated they would weld my unit up and try to ship out by the end of the week. I should see it early next week. Just my luck, though, the MIG welder is out of gas. Now I need to have my tank filled if I want to weld on the tabs.

Five teeth will work, I went with 7 for four reasons.

1. The 7 tooth bar seems to penetrate better into really hard dirt that has a lot of clay (and boy do I have a bunch of that) in it when I tried them out.

2. The teeth are closer together on the 7 tooth bar so it works better on the sagebrush I'm pulling out (have a lot of that too) because it is just the right size for the sagebrush to get wedged in between the teeth of the toothbar; saves me getting on and off the tractor with a chain to pull the stuff out of the ground.

3. I use the toothbar a lot to either split rocks into flat pieces along a fault line in the rock or dig out rocks from the ground out here. I have a lot of rocks.:D Having 7 teeth spreads out the force on the bucket a little bit so there is less chance of bending it or knocking the FL out of alignment.

4. The 7 tooth bar was recommended by some other folks on this site when I was doing a search for answers and didn't have any experience. Now I have a little tiny bit of experience and am pretty happy with performance of the ATI 7 tooth bar I picked out but whether it has 5 teeth or 7 teeth having a toothbar will still help a lot.

Thanks again for your input EdC.

I've been following this and the other thread about toothbars closely. On the other thread, I saw the landscape bar mentioned, and took a look at that. Pros and cons to that one also.

So, I kind of made a compromise.
Most of the 60" bars I saw in photos here had 7 teeth. That gives a spacing of ~8.57".
5 teeth on a 53" bar is 10.8"
A lot of my uses will be pulling briar bushes (long shallow root system), plus pulling sod for landscaping. I wanted somthing more than the 5 teeth.

So, I am going with 7 teeth on a 53" bar, which gives me 7.57" spacing.

Placed my order with Markham today.

I must say, that I was impressed with the shipping charge - a lot less than I thought.

Thanks to all who share their opinions and real-world testing on these things here at TBN. This is always an excellent resourse when buying "blind" like this!
