3-Point Hitch Top link mount tore off back of differential case

/ Top link mount tore off back of differential case #101
Sorry to see your damage, but is a known factor for 3 pt. hoe.
Friend had a new Kubota with 20 hours on it and the same thing happened.
Dealer was not helpful for him.
Anyhow, as all have posted, 4 pt. subframe is mandantory and
may still fall under operator error!

After I installed my subframe on my L3400 for my hoe,
I found out that their is a support bracket that goes on top
of the housing under the seat and goes down to the bolt holes
where the bracket accepts the pin for 3 pt. attachments.

Most dealers are not aware of this bracket and you must do some research for it - it is a Kubota part.

Attached are pics of mine, may have the part number some where???

From Woodmax backhoe manual. Due to the rigid nature of the setup if the 3pt is raised and exerts too much pressure the top link is supposed to bend and protect the tractor. After attached 3pt should remain down since it's a rigid setup.

Warning - Danger on compressive force on top link if raised!

For years thought 3pt backhoe issues were digging forces related damage. After seeing how manufactures force a floating 3pt setup to be rigid and concentrate compression forces on the top link connection at an upward angle easy to see how just raising the 3pt up could break this top section.

See MFG manual info on post #110

FWIW, I just checked my Owner's Manual for my L4330 "Implement Limitations, page 12:

Backhoes:

Max digging depth, 90 inches.
Max weight: 990 lbs
Subframe: Necessary

This OM covers models L3130, L3430, L3830, L4330, L4630 and L5030.

By saying "subframe necessary", I'm guessing that that precludes the use of a 3ph backhoe.

I would interpret it that way....

I wish the poster would share some information as to how this occurred. If he made an error, I can understand not wanting to jeopardize a warranty claim.

OUCH I still feel my pain and it happened about 15 years ago. Woods 750 on a 1720 tractor.. straight 3 point hitch ....Luckily it was just the upper bracket plate with four holes that tore off. Had to get a new one. cost was 75 dollars or so. So your not alone...

Here is another victim on a 3 pt backhoe.

It's a Branson 5025R and after 300 hours with the backhoe, it finally gave up. Luckily, the draft control comes standard on Branson tractors in Europe and it acted like a mechanical fuse. It only broke the welded assembly of the top link mount, which is easy to fix and reinforce. It's always better than breaking the entire top and rear diff housing.

Granted those welded doesn't look amazing, but it still held 300 hours.

Thanks very much for the great pix. I think my setup is a bit different.

Thanks. I WISH my setup had a mechanical fuse.
