Top loading vs side loading washers

All right guys, this is a post on washing machines and there have been 46 replies. In a Tractor forum.

My wife says in our 25 years of marriage I haven't touched a washing machine 3 times. She says if all you other tractor guys know so much about washing machines --- I need to learn more as well.

You all are getting me into trouble.

How many times has she mowed the lawn? Compare that to how many weeks you've done laundry. If her number is larger than your number.... sorry, you lose.

Why do you think that front-load washers often stink, but you don't hear much about dishwashers doing the same thing? My wife uses both so often that maybe that is why neither of our appliances have much odor.:confused3:

Never. Never leave ye washing machine door closed, top or front loading - ye won't have nary stinking machine. Leave ye door open - all the time - except when washing clothes.

We have both now, front and top. Bosch front, old Sears top. I just don't know, sometimes, I like the old top better, but worse we wash is me hound's blanket. For big things, I think front loading is better. Don't know about nary side loading though.

I do all my own laundry, always have since before I was married. Cooking too. Not so much cleaning.

A bit late here to post something, but my washer is an 11 year old Maytag front loading Neptune. It gets a LOT of use but has always performed flawlessly (knock wood here) and although I know other people with the same machine who have had problems, they were all using conventional detergents rather than the HE type which is recommended.

WHile waiting on our new units we have been using a Bosch front load machine and today I hit the start/pause button and it unlocked the door allowing me to open it.

Later I switched the unit from warm to hot during the rinse cycle and I believe it started the wash cycle over. :laughing:

I've only done it when it's in the wash cycle. You hit the pause button, open the door and toss it in. Be sure to start it back up though.

If I leave the door open on my Maytag Neptune front loader, the light stays on. This may be good or bad depending upon how long the bulb lasts and the cost to replace it. It does makes a great night light, though.

Hmmm. some friends of ours have a front loader and said it won't let them do that. Don't know the model. Thanks for the info. :thumbsup:

My wifey does not like the way I wash clothes so she does it. Now, it ain't like she does anything special throwing the clothes in the machine or pushing a button I can't see but she does not like the way I get 'er done. Having said that, *** I *** have to ruined clothes with bleach. :shocked::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Tell your wifey that you simply can't do the washing as well as her. She has the magic touch.
