Top loading vs side loading washers

WHile waiting on our new units we have been using a Bosch front load machine and today I hit the start/pause button and it unlocked the door allowing me to open it.

Later I switched the unit from warm to hot during the rinse cycle and I believe it started the wash cycle over.

WOW! You are living on the wild side! ;):laughing::laughing:

You keep this up you might get a tractor or something. :D:D:D

Our dishwashers have never stunk. I would think stinky dishwashers is from food particles in the machine. We are dump any scraps in the trash before loading the dishwasher which might be why we do not have a smelly system.

The stinky front loading washer is from water left behind in the washer. Our new washer also has a cycle that move air through the machine to help prevent stink but I we don't usually use it though I noticed it was running at 4:00am when I got up to put some wood in the stove.

Never had an issue with smelly dishwashers. We rinse and scrape too before they go in.

I would have to agree that the water left behind in the washer is the source of the smell. We haven't used the washer since I opened up the trap the other day, wiped it out, and of course there is no skunky water in it. The musty smell is gone.

We leave the door open all the time, so that isn't going to fix the issue. The fact that they offer the air blast purge means they know it's residual water.

I skipped to the last thread so if somebody else has posted this info already I apologize.

If you have a front loader do not use liquid detergent. Once we started using powder we quit having mildew/mold problems. Once a month or two put two cups of powder DISHWASHING detergent inside the machine and fill all dispenser tubs with white vinegar. Run the machine EMPTY on the hottest setting. Clean out the filter and you are ready for a couple months trouble free use.

Every front loader has a drain and filter located on it. Look in you manual to find it and clean it monthly.

We just bought a new LG last week. A small water leak on a valve allowed water to drip on the motor. It more than ten years old so I didn't want to put the repair money in it.

Funny how this thread has come up
1990 bought a sears top load series 80 washer ran until 2007
bought a top load "commercial grade" maytag....lasted two yrs found a small leak on the tub seal seal with labor was 300.00
2009 bought a new whirlpool duet front load have had it looked at twice and it still intermittantly spurts water on the floor.
I have a new door seal and will try that if it doesnt stop leaking going to send it to the cabin.

I like the low water usuage of the front load but wondering if maybe I need to go to a good old fashioned top load from sears or speed queen

The fact that they offer the air blast purge means they know it's residual water.

I got curious about the fan option so I read the manual. It is for lowering the humidity inside the washer after a load has been washed and left in the washer for up to 12 hours. Guess this does make sense if one washes clothes as night or first thing in the morning and one can't get the clothes in the dryer right away.
