hydro forks 3.jpgI added hydraulic ram so I can adjust them from the seat. They never had any kind of locking system before hand though.

Most forks are made for forklift (ITA) carriage or shaft type.
ITA = Industrial Truck Association and yes top bar has a bevel which is universal as dictated by ITA.
Carriage classes are 1-4 typically and is based upon capacity
Angle of bevel is constant , thickness varies with class.
Distance between upper and lower mounting hook vary with class (capacity as well).

I have the LP forks as well, although it wasn't that expensive since I got them at the same auction when I bought my house, land, farm and tractor.

My biggest concern when moving my forks is crushing or hitting my fingers. As I've aged, my fingers and toes have gotten more sensitive. Hits that I shrugged off years ago now sting and hurt like heck.

To make it slide easier, I either grease them or spray them my homemade tractor oil spray: 50/50 mix of syn ATF and diesel fuel.

I don't remember what brand my forks are but I found if I release the top pins, have the forks about waist high and tipped slightly down, I can just lift slightly with one hand at the center of the forks, then use the other hand to slide the vertical part. Doing it that way they move fairly easy.

I also raise my loader a bunch and point the forks almost straight down. This relieves the pressure of gravity and they slide easier
I don't grease mine, just attracts sand. It helps if you unlock the pins so the forks can slide. Then raise the FEL and point the forks straight down... When you get them close to where you want them, release the pins so they can pop back into position. Usually move easier in that position.
These are the way. -- With the cantilevered weight relieved in this way even standard WD 40 will be very effective assisting the slide. And the application is clean and temporary.

We keep one of the Smart Straw WDs on every tractor.

Used my forks today; tilting them down partway (forks at about a 45 degree angle) worked great, thanks to everyone who mentioned it!

I added a hydraulic fork positioner to my tractor works great.

Looks like you did a nice job on them. Where did you get hydraulic cylinders from and what size are they?

Thanks however I just used a kit. I am in the forklift (related) business and this is a fork positioner mechanism from the forklift industry.
Works great for fork positioning but its not a clamp (load bearing) moves forks like a rocket ship.
