Toyota sales off more than GM or Ford

In general terms yes... we are talking manufacturing here... not raw materials. Of course not everything we use or buy will ever come from the US. But generally speaking if there's manufacturing jobs then there's money for the public to buy goods. Manufacturing is what makes a country and even states powerful and wealthy. Look how the south has thrived in recent years due to increased manufacturing in the region. While the north has unfortunately had more difficulty.

How clear is the picture on that there RCA TV----or is it a Sony that you are watching----the change has to begin at home your home and mine or nothing will change except our standard of living----your money your decision----sure some things made here cost more BUT-----

All of this talk about country of origin does not mean a tinker's dam given the current state of the economy. From what I read, most people are cutting back to the essentials if that.

Are you serious?

Are you then saying all lumber used in the USA has to come from trees cut down in the USA? We'd never have enough lumber. Should all consumer electronics used in the US come from the US? There aren't any.

There's millions of products we need that come from offshore.

Does that hold true for all other countries? If they use it in their country, it must come from their country?

Then the chinese will stop buying Buicks, John Deeres and so on... So the Chinese will get lesser vehicles and the Americans will get 3 times more expensive consumer electronics. Which means that both countries will suffer....

You cant get without global trade anymore and it will cause even more crisis if it is tried to reverse this.. Only a populist politician would dare to pose that..

Yep you are right. And does a pretty good job of it too.

You are a curious concoction of contradictions.

In some posts you're just as proud as a new parent that Toyota is here building trucks in America, then you compliment a domestic like Chrysler building trucks in Mexico.

Is it basically you like anything but a Domestic truck built in the USA:confused:

My point is this. If a foreign manufacture is going to sell their vehicles in the US... then ideally they will build their vehicles in the US.

The Dodge trucks made in Mexico generally have very good build quality. Many believe better quality than the US plant making the same truck. That's not my opinion... it's many people's.

However with that being said... It would be nice to see more American companies build their products in America with well paid (not overly paid) skilled workers.

Assembly line workers are typically not considered "skilled" workers. A skilled worker would be a master plumber, carpenter, etc.

If you treat them like and expect them to do be skilled workers then they will deliver higher quality and take ownership of their product.

Your statement is one of the big reasons big US companies struggle so much with labor.

and take ownership of their product.

Not necessarily true. I was buy the Honda Plants a couple of weeks ago, and did NOT see the employee parking lot loaded with Hondas. If they like it they will buy, if they have other preferences, they won't.

Mexican factories are younger and therefore more modern than older factories in the US. In the same time Mexican factories are staffed by much younger and generally better educated people.
