How can that be true if Chrysler offers a lifetime warranty on the drivetrain of almost all their vehicles and GM offers 100,000 mi warranties on most of their vehicles?

Were Ford & GM's interests in the company and stockholders when they gave their employees some of the most generous union benefits ever in the history of labor? Toyota, nissan etc won't allow unions and pay lower wages/benefits?

MAYBE cause they (big 3) have to inorder to remain in business? ? Had a ford taurus that @ 70k needed a new transmission:eek: , brother had a F-150 (ten yrs old) and started feeling funny steering wise and found out his frame was rotted  had it repaired then finally dumped the piece of . . . Brought a korean-made car based on WARRANTY then price and love it. Employers are fond of telling you that they can't give you a better raise(something that might come close to COST of living) but are quick to complain about their competition. sorry but ya can't have it both ways JMHO -Ed

Builder, I think it is sort of funny you mention how Chrysler offers a lifetime warranty on the drivetrain of almost all their vehicles. My brother just got done having to spend $4k on his Grand Caravan drivetrain. All others are covered by warranty but, his all wheel drive model was not.

Nobody could ever convince me to another brand. I've had mine for 9 years and 180K miles and all I've had go bad was the starter. I'll keep it as long as it remains dependable.

All true but did they rectroactive their warranties to their 15 year old vehicles???

I didn't get one on my 8 yo Jeep TJ that I purchased new, nor do I see them extending it on to vehicles purchased before they started this program.

Apparantly 15 years on the frames of the Tacos.
Even though I don't own one I think it's pretty cool of them to step up to the plate like that to take care of one of their products in such a fashion.

My first new truck was an '88 F-350 that came from the factory with a 7yr/70K warranty. I bet that was better than a Toy. truck warranty at the time and that was 20 years ago. :D so it's not a recent phenomena that a domestic had a better warranty than a Toy.

Fast forward 20 years and Toy. doesn't match my GM 100K powertrain warranty or Dodge's lifetime warranty.

GM & Dodge must have more faith in their trucks that they'll last longer.

I remember my unlce's Toy. pickup rusted out way before the drivetrain was shot. The frame rusted so bad it wouldn't pass inspection:eek: and we're not in a real heavy salt use area.

let's stop beating around the bush, here. It's just because they're trying to save face. I think it was the right thing to do, but how on earth could "all mighty Toyota, world's greatest car builder and media darling to Consumer Reports" ever build such a poorly built truck to begin with?

I wonder if Consumer reports will ever make mention of this? Somehow I'd doubt it. lol

I know they build good trucks, but I don't believe all the hype I read about them. Toyota recalled more cars than they built in '07.

I used to work for Toyota and Lexus. When I worked for Toyota in 91 we had a recall on early 80s Tercel rear suspensions rotting out, guess what? All got new rear suspensions with sub-frame for free. In fact salesman bought or got them for free and hauled them, got them replaced and resold them. Toyota and Lexus when I worked for them were quite concerned on safety issues to a point of being over board. Example, No tech could remove a seat-belt light from a vehicle per customer's request. If you did you were fired and you could no longer work for Toyota nor Lexus.

Today, Toyota is big and they want to be bigger! This means they are throwing them out faster and not doing their R&D. Example, The New FJ cruisers have had unibody crumple-zones cracking from moderate off-roading. The new Tundra has had tranny problems, don't sit on tailgate thing, and poor gas mileage. Also ironically the TRD Tundra does not come with a rear locker like it's little brother, which tells me the cheapen up the line. All you got is a LSD.

I got this info searching for my wife's new vehicle over 6 months of my own R&D. Driving Toyota and Nissan for years and wanting something comfortable, safe, and gets good MPGs for it size. I was planning to by exactly that! We bought a 08 Silverado Crew-cab, I surprised alot of friends by doing that!!!!

What you need to do is beat-up the dealer. I have done this many times and they do not know my background till they ask. If they held your vehicle they did that for the field-engineer to look at it. Which means it is pretty serious!! Do your best and bring up the Tercel recall if they do not go for it.

The other thing is since 00 (I beleive) Toyota has been buying steel from GM!

BTW, I have a 92 Toy 4x4 and 89 Toy 4runner sitting in back. Both have recalls on the steering box.

I think they built them with non-union American labor but I could be wrong.
I don't read Consumer Reports, I feel they are not very accurate on much they write.

Ya know what's funny about this is neither one of us even own a Toyota or probably ever have, although my next vehicle in a year will be a 4X4 Tacoma to take the chores of my Jeep while it undergoes many upgrades for playing offroad.
