Simple question: Do you lube your three point hitch pins and balls? I put a couple of drops of oil on mine the other week since they are moving parts. Seemed to make sense but now I'm wondering if the oil isn't going to attract more dirt and accelerate any wear that may occur.

Related question: How about PTO shafts/couplers? Same situation as a bit of oil seems to make sense other than the dirt aspect.

Any and all opinions welcome, even natural versus synthetic oil for this application /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Rob, I'll admit that I really don't know what's best. I've never found anything in the owner's manual about lubricating those points. But what I do is occasionally (pretty infrequently) give the little balls in the lower links a shot of WD-40. I don't do anything to the PTO shaft, except wipe it off occasionally with a rag, but since I grease the u-joints on the driveshafts liberally, the PTO shaft is always greasy.

Rob,

The John Deere operator's manual recommends using clean engine oil to lubricate the 3-point ball joints at 200 hr intervals or as needed.

That's what I use./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

What about chassis grease? I'm using JD's HD Moly high temp.

I alway's give mine, a couple of drop's of 85-90 gear oil. Seems like it stick's better. Makes sense to me it is a wear point. Have done it for the last five yr's. Everything seems good and tight. I've seen some that's never, had oil our nothing put on them, and the ball's look like there readly, to fall out of there socket's. Just seems like the right thing to do!!!
My two cent's.
