I was looking for tire chains for the new tractors R4's. It will be for snow removal use on both gravel and blacktop. Mainly just pushing it off and stacking it. We used to chain the front but I was thinking of chaining all 4. Is there any good retailers who sell good tractor chains? Seems like all we did was make a set of chains from an old set and so on. I can't ever remember buying a set.

Thanks

Aquiline Talons, Norse Super Tractor (made by Tellefsdal) are both good on snow and ice. May be a bit aggressive for blacktop though if you tend to spin a lot. I've been happy with mine on gravel and around the woods and fields in winter. I doubt you'll need all four wheels, mine only has them on the rear.

If you have the 470 R4's on your tractor you need to buy a chain made for that tire. If you try to use a regular R4 chain it will not fit. I would check with the folks at tirechains.com before you buy. I have bought 4 different sets of chains from them. They are good people to do business with.

I'll secon on tirechain.com. Since you are going to be on blacktop you probably will not want a set v-bars or the ones like Sean posted. They will do damage the blacktop.

Ditto on tirechains.com. They provided me with rapid delivery....(not that it was necessary).....and good phone support. I didn't shop other places but their web site seemed to fully explain the features and benefits and FAQ to my satisfaction. Boy are those buggers heavy!! It's kinda like having about 55 lbs of wheel weights on each side along with the better traction.

Sounds good. I'll be teaching a class 30 minutes from there hub in a couple weeks so I'll see if I can pick up and save some shipping cost.

Thanks all

If you're going to be on pavement then the only chains I would buy are chains made especially for pavement. Those chains Chilly posted (I have the same ones) will be your best option for driving on ice but they will damage your blacktop. These chains are made for blacktop use Aquiline Tire Chains - Compact Utility Tractor Tire Chains. They are harden square rod not round like most.
