I thought it was dangerous before but the video camera puts it over the top your attention focused on that should make for interesting viewing. like I said its only a matter of time before sumthin happens good luck.
p.s the first rule of lifting or moving anything is Pay attention! save the cinematography for fishing trips.

well I don't think there will be a problem. If they don't overload it. I did mine the same way without the winch just curled the bucket down to pick.
real slow. and almost below idle speed.I hope in a few days there will be success and some videos for us all. Just like the other posting of the guy with the shed on the car trailer. Some thought it impossible but it seemed to come together well.

nice enginuity. Keeping it simple.

1 word of advice though. 1/2 of your cable clamps are on backwards. If you ever read the packaging on claps, it essentially says to clamp the dead end. Meaning, the the "U" part of the clamp goes over the non-loaded side. This cable on that side of the U gets pinched pretty good and looses strength.

Growing up, I always mixed them like you have. Until, I did some reading by people who are smarter than I am.

Unfortunately, you have already weakened the cable, so you won't gain anything by turning them around.

Good way to remeber how cable clamps are to be installed "Never saddle a dead horse" found this saying on the package of a new clamp and have allways remebered it.

Someone else told me that once, but I can never remember that :(

thanks for sharing. Now, I just need to say it 3 times without the kids looking at me funny :)

Just from looking at the trusses I think Eddie would put the whole shebang up by himself in less time than it took to build the boom.:D

Wow, talk about doing every single possible safety thing wrong all at once! Is any single piece of that rated for overhead lifting? You couldn't pay me to be within 100 yards of that death-trap-in-waiting while it was in the air.

EDIT: Those turnbuckles will first stress themselves to the breaking point, then snap. The "testing" is just weakening the metal in advance of using them. More or less lowering their useful life before you've even done anything with them.

EDIT2: Are they really aluminum Home Depot specials? Those things are rated at like 350lbs.

"Never saddle a dead horse"
Thats a great remembering tool!

Not to worry, I long ago learned that on the net everyone has an opinion, and most can't tell the difference between what they know and what they believe.

Will be posting the construction pics/videos probably sometime Tuesday.

Rather easy to deduce from this who actually reads before responding and who doesn't. It doesn't really matter if a turnbuckle should fail, I've already got it covered. Those who actually read the thread know why.

I am, however, truly curious about those turnbuckles too, so --- after finishing the barn, and whatever stress that has placed upon them, I'm going to put together a static load rig and test both turnbuckles to the point of failure just to see what load they really do fail at. I might even tape and record that test. If so I will also post those results here. :)

I thought it was dangerous before but the video camera puts it over the top ... Pay attention! save the cinematography for fishing trips.

Out this way, we have a little invention that addresses this concern. We call it a tripod. :)

Well I'm sure your tired of listening to everyone say it's not safe, it's a death trap, but let me say this. You said you made it so your able to use it by yourself if you need to. Is that correct? Well DON'T DO ITmake sure you have a spotter standing at a safe distance just in case. A spotter can call for help should anything go wrong.

Last thing you want is to be lying on the ground, injured, unable to move and having to wait until someone comes and finds you because you didn't come in for supper.

Don't ask me how I know, and may the tractor gods be watching over you;)
