Sorry, I didn't make my point clear enough. It was sarcasm aimed toward 4570 and his comments about the poor quality of Drone cameras and how they are ineffective as spying devices.

In my opinion, he's entirely correct.

Drones are great for overhead perspectives of landscapes. I'm not aware of any aimed at consumers that have any sort of camera control: no zoom, no focus, no FLIR, etc.

There are some more expensive drones that accommodate two controllers so that one person can "fly" and the other can control the camera. They are not cheap, unobtrusive or quiet. Few can fly longer than 15-20 minutes. The DJI Inspire Pro is about the cheapest: $4,500.

Compared to smart phones, fixed-location security cameras, license plate scanners, toll scanners, www tracking and debit and credit cards, drones are far down my list of privacy concerns.

But some folks have a very emotional response to drones.

But I accept that if a Drone comes anywhere near me it has the capability to photograph or video me with enough detail to be intrusive. I would say if I can hear it, it can shoot detailed pics of me or my area.

Hi Richard, yeah I might beg to differ with those that think the resolution isn't there yet.

Of course it depends on how close the drone is to the subject for fixed lens but... As I recall, I opted for the 1080p (Phantom 3 Advanced) resolution camera but there is also a 4K version. True there is no zoom but one can do this optically after the fact. I am amazed at the clarity of the video and still photos by the provided camera. The FOV (field of view) is quite wide on my drone so you do have to get close if you really want detail of what a human is doing vs. say taking inventory of how many cars, cows, etc. No doubt cameras with high telephoto can be done. Still quite expensive to get into a setup like that but of course that will drop dramatically in a few years. I'm running about a $1000 unit. Lots of cheaper toys now on the market but they don't have great cameras. Coming soon to a sky near you though.

The camera technology is already there, but it isn't flying around on civilian drones. My Hero 3 takes pretty good pictures, but not good enough for "spying". I can do better with a zoom lens from the ground. My neighbors house is 50 yards away from my property line. His drive way is at the closest about 20 feet from the property line. It isn't like I would actually need any high dollar equipment to "spy" on him.
