Tractor hibernation

Please explain to me ( I'm curious) the hydro comment. I have a kubota L3710HST not only does it have a clutch (to shift between (Low - Med- High range) it has a "neat" little hook on the floorboard that flips up to hold the clutch down when storing the machine. I'm guessing some machines don't have the different ranges and run only in one. I'll appreciate the education.

I have a 1969 rambler that the engine locked up on from setting unused for to long.
Had to put new rings in it to free it up to get it going.
I have 4 pick ups 3 of which are stored 6 to 9 months of the year.
Since the rambler experience I start them around the 25th of each month and let then run for 10 to 20 minutes.
Been doing this for several years and have neve had another engine lock up or dead battery

Many multi-range CUTs don't have a clutch. You just shift it to the range you want. My JD 4110 is like that. In fact, I didn't realize that any hydros had clutches until I read it on this board.

That was my point Cliff. I was trying to be funny as we've all seen the clutch vs hydro arguements over time and no matter who you talk to the point has no end to it. Both work well and it's a matter of personel preference which one you use.
I saw the clutch issue and had to throw in the Hydro comment. Like a kid in a candy store I couldn't resist. Sorry...

It's a long story, but I've let my JD-790 sit thru the last 5 winters. Here's what I do:

- Remove the battery and run a trickle charge on it all winter
- Leave the diesel tank full
- Put the tractor up on blocks (all 4 tires off the ground) to prevent flat spots
- Give it a good grease job and rub down the hydraulic shafts with grease too
- Leave the hood fully open (I've had mice build nests on the engine when I kept it closed)
