Tractor Sizing TRACTOR WEIGHT as a SINGLE CRITERION IN TRACTOR SELECTION

Thanks. It's definitely a 5065M I'm looking at. I had talked to the local Deere dealer about a 5065 or 5075e. Even though I really like the people at the dealer and they were very accommodating on price and everything else, I can't warm up to the idea of an open station 5065e (can't afford the cab version new). I also can't afford a new M.

Hi Jeff, the 5425 is also a cab tractor and I'm looking at Kubota cab tractors as well (7060, 8560, 8200). The 5065M has 1050 hrs and is super clean. 5425 has 2700 hrs but is also very clean.

CAB TRACTORS

Kubota 7060 = 5,380 pounds / 71-horsepower

Kubota 8560 = 6,680 pounds / 85 horsepower
Deere 5065M = 7,800 pounds / 65 horsepower
Deere 5425 = 7,385 pounds / 81 horsepower

The fact that you "really like" Deere 5065M should be a factor in selection.

Exluding hay factor, Deere 5065M is the heaviest tractor under consideration.

I assume all tractors have 4-WD and approximately equal rear wheel ballast.

And the Massey Ferguson 4707 is 8600 pounds without weights or loader, 10,000 # with loader and weights

Yes, all 4-WD. I like the 5425 very much also but it has nearly 3 times the hours and is only about $2K less expensive than the 5065M. Can you see any situations where the 5425 would be preferable to the 5065M?

many thanks

Sure.

If you want to operate a really wide "Batwing" Rotary Cutter.

If you want to operate a really wide snow blower.

If you want to throw snow a long distance with a snow blower.

Any other tractor application requiring a lot of PTO horsepower.

With the possible exception of haying, where I declined to answer, none of the applications in your Post #1 require more than average PTO horsepower for the weight of tractors under consideration.

I am NOT enough of a Deere expert to offer choice advice between Deere 5065M and Deere 5425.

Provide MCKINNEY a ballpark price. He is only considering cab tractors.

Thanks, I've edited my profile to show my location (Fannin County, TX)

Re: pricing, the Deere 5065M I'm looking at is priced at $36.5K (after negotiation). The 5425 is $35K. Both cab tractors in very good shape with 4WD and Deere power reverse transmission. The 5065M is 16 spd.

Thanks again for the responses.

Don't know what hours are on the 5065M but for reference my 2012 T4.75 with 1K one owner hours was priced mid 30's. It was in excellent condition. To me that seems to be a more than fair price for the 5065M.
