Thanks for the follow-up report.
I'll refer you to Post #20. You probably didn't need a battery or the trip into town with the starter motor.

Tracing the power from battery up to Ignition switch you would have found your 'chewed wires'. The headlight wire you already found was a clue.

Rats are a year-round problem.

Glad you're up & running. The hub leak is something you can do at home also.

update....

The wires under the dash / behind the ignition switch were chewed off. I've been slack on putting out mice/rat killer. ****. I'll re-double my efforts asap.

Rats are usually a winter problem here, not summer. Painful lesson learned.

$309 so far... now for the leaking seal at the front tire hub.... First time I have had to send it to the dealership for a repair since I bought it. Fingers crossed that I get it back this weekend yet!

Mike, your VERY lucky it didnt short out and cause a fire at some point. Very happy for you and that you got it running again.
The hub seal isnt that big of deal.

The state (secretly) brought in coyotes to clean them out, now we got coyote problems.

Except that the battery failed every test given to it. The starter motor is on the same level of mechanical ease as changing a battery. So that was really no big deal.

The hub seal (and another seal on the same tire assembly) were quoted as a 5 hour job from the mechanic. I can't afford the time to do that. (oil is leaking onto the tire on the inside surface of the tire)

I'm just glad it is fixed and I will be back to work with it soon.

M-I-L's stacked washer/dryer quit agitating. Based on the "helpful diagnosis" videos on the appliance parts websites, the most likely culprits were either the "agitator drive block" or the belt. Well, you can't even see the belt without disassembling the cabinet, so wife bought a $30 drive block. Which turns out to be frozen on the transmission shaft so hard that it literally had to be chiseled off. Didn't change the problem at all. So disassembled front of cabinet to check the belt.

Immediately noticed a chewed, burnt end of a wire dangling down from the lid safety switch. D*mn mice had somehow climbed up inside the cabinet to the little ridge where the top meets the sides. Guess we were lucky it was only one wire. And lucky that no one got electrocuted while the frayed ends dangled and danced around inside.
