I've got a 42x50 shop metal building. I previously piled my firewood outside against the North wall. Last fall I decided I wanted a lean-to added to cover the wood pile. I added a 12x24, single slope, metal roofed, wooden poles/rafters, 7' high at the eave. I now pile my wood under it and then use it for parking in the off season. I love it. I'm going to add another 18ft so it extends all the way across my shop this fall.
I like it open so I can easily get in and out, would hate it with walls and a door.
When I'm stacking firewood I'm throwing in an occassional poison packet. I don't have mice problems at all. I dose my shop as well so rarely, maybe a couple times a year, see any evidence of mice in the area.
I should have built the lean-to when I did the shop. I have a window in the middle of North wall. My next addition is going to be to replace that window with a door so I can walk directly into the lean-to from the shop!!!
I'm enjoying watching your progress!!! Good for the Soul isn't it...
