Looks like a corn field, not too many farmers I know will fork out the bucks to pay, what's up?
Are they (the better one's) headed to a mill?
I bet that 3 pronged tree in the first pic was worrisome, at least it was a wide open site.

We cut around six that size. Real pain....had to roll them on the truck because the boom couldn't lift them. They don't get much bigger than that in southern indiana.

What saw/bar/chain? I see it's a Husky with an Oregon bar, but can't tell the model, size and of coarse the chain.

All the trees were bought by a large grade lumber mill. They can run 52 inches through their head rig so a a couple of these they're gonna have to break down with chainsaws first. We do all of our cutting with ported 395 huskys and usually 24" bars with full skip round chisel chain. We did break out the three foot bar for most of these hogs though.

Looks like the start of a wonderful setting in a lovely slice of nature.

Are you replanting or turning it all into bowling green or crops, or ?

What equipment and system did the loggers use to harvest and did they or you clean up so well afterwards? I seldom see land left in such good condition after harvesting here.

I took pictures of everything so I'll have to look at those for model numbers but they had one John Deere feller/buncher, a John Deere skidder, John Deere knuckle boom and delimber and a huge whole tree chipper.

I haven't cleaned up any thing yet. The area where tractor is in that pic is the landing/deck where they delimbed and chipped. It has the most slash and stuff. I'm going to pick through it and get firewood and let the small stuff just rot.

I was approved for our state crop share program and this summer they will replant with loblolly pine.

Here is a nice blowdown I got to today. I will probably have the bottom log sawed for fence boards.

Now I know what's been missing on this thread, not enough videos of people cutting trees down, cranking that Husqvarna made me laugh, I have a two year old 550 XP, it start just like yours most of the time, once and a while it starts good, but it is the worst starting saw I ever had.

That water splash was awesome, I concur should of cut the tree lower . I wonder who got their hands wet getting a chain around it, or was the dog chain trained to get it around the tree. So what is firewood of choice in the great state of Michigan, here in Maine I burn red oak, ash, beach birch and maple, all begins with a.

Thanks we should have cut those trees down in the summer when the swamp was dry, but but the splash is a good effect. I wish i would have had a camera 5 years ago when we cut down all the 24" plus ash.
I have two Stihls pictured on the left MS361 and MS660 My buddy Mark has the 372XP and a 353XP the 372xp is fine to start cold and fine to start warm but when its sat for a 30 minutes or so i t doesn't seem to start off choke or on full choke it floods out. I really prefer the Stihl integrated choke , fast idle , and kill switch it just works. the husky controls are cumbersome to use with gloves. Once the 372 xp is running its an awesome saw it has really good power for its weight 5.3hp/13.4 lbs it has almost as much power as the MS441's 5.6 hp / 14.6 lbs. Although from what i've seen the Mtronic stihl's start really easy.
I let Mark go fish it out as he had his muck boots with him and hes the that decided to cut the tree off 4 feet above ground.

Oak, Hickory, Black Walnut, Cherry, Black Locust, and especially Ash are the wood's of choice here right now. The emerald ash borer killed off all of our ash trees 5-6 years ago we've been working on taking them down for a long time. nice thing is they all dried standing so the wood is ready as soon as we split it. It generally measures about 18-20% moisture after being freshly split.
