Jspssg, did you ever have an issue with the offset pto angle on your uniforest?

Not yet. The only problem that I did have was when the rod to hold the shaft when it's off the tractor worked it's way out, so when I lifted the winch things bound up and made some not-funny noises. THat was 3 years ago and things still work, but it could have had expensive repercussions.

The drive shaft? You normally shut the pto down when lifting the winch to move?

Yes.
It's gone now, but the winch had a handy little rod which swung out to rest the drive shaft on when it wasn't attached to the tractor.
I didn't notice that it had moved out, so when I lifted the winch it caught on the rod.

Has anyone tore out the mounting points of the top link using the three point winches?

I believe that retired member Oldpath partially cracked the housing using his winch, before making a reinforcement bracket. He seemed to work that little tractor way beyond it's limits though.

Like any tool, I suppose it can be abused. If you size the winch appropriately for your tractor, use the lower pulley on hard pulls (if your winch has one), make sure the blade on the base of the winch is planted on the ground and use some common sense, you won't have a problem.

The most common damage I've heard of from logging winch use is bending the lower three point arms sideways by pulling at too much of a side angle. That is easily avoided: either re-aim the tractor, or use a snatch block to redirect the pull.

Interesting. He dropped out after receiving a note from management asking him to remove a religious line from his signature, but until your post I didn't realize that his profile was gone.
