Good luck if you need work done!

Got no horse in this race. I priced from Barlows but ended up buying locally for within just a few dollars. That said, there are hundreds of guys on here who have purchased from Barlows from Penn, Maine, Texas, etc and we've not heard about any issues. I dunno.

I still think a quote is in order, for comparison purposes, which was my original point.

I'll give them a call and see what they can do. That will at least give me a price point to compare to. My biggest reservation about buying so far away - is the service. I've had to get a couple of warranty repairs done on the BX23 and my local dealer was very good to deal with. If we are talking about saving say $3000 - then I might start looking at Barlow. If we are talking $1000 - quite honestly I would probably eat the higher cost and know I can go to my dealer and expect them to support me.

I'm under no illusions that my dealer is going to be jumping thru hoops for me if I go buy a tractor somewhere else.

Sadly, some dealers don't jump through any hoops even if you do buy from them, while others dealers are super supportive folks. That testimony is all over this forum, that's for sure.

I've seen all that testimony too. I have had good experiences with the dealer I bought from - and I tend to think if I go back again and buy another tractor they'll look at me a little bit better - repeat customer and all that.

We'll see - I'll be stopping in there tomorrow.

What i mean is I buy in Kentucky and ship to Ohio and it breaks as things tend to do. Who do I take it to fix it. You think the local guy is gonna run right over and pick it up? It will always be dead last for repairs.

Yeah, I got what you meant the first time.

To answer your question, somewhat. DisplacedPA had an issue with his, bought from Barlow's. They picked it up and fixed it. As I understand it, their trucks are running all over the country delivering, picking up trade-ins and the like.
I've bought two Kubotas and neither have ever been back to the dealer anyhow.
Most guys buy locally for the reasons you give.

Again, got no dog in this hunt, so I'm out of this thread. My point was simply to get a quote. That's all.

Jim,

I went thru the same process trying to sell my B21 @ 430 Hrs, stored inside and very clean and well kept - you can see pics on here.

Dealer offered $12K and stated new B26 is $33K - I had a option to get a B26 on here from MissingsTexas so I advertised mine locally and on CL.

I felt a nearly new B21 (with 2x the capacity of the B23-25 series) should be worth $16500 but the closest offer I got was $14K range to come and "look". I replied yes you can look for $14K and then give me another $2K to take it home..

So I set a date - end April to sell mine and ulitmately let the B26 go to another TBN member for a great price, and I am keeping mine - for now anyway.

What we are dealing with today, there are a host of SCUT options, Yanmar/Cub 2450, Mahindra Max, JD 1026 and Kubota BX with TLB's. These new are all in the $16-18K range new and most didn't exist in 2003..

That was my competition - people think a used B21 with 2x the capabilty is worth a lot less than the new BX or 2450 Yanmar etc with 0%.

You have a challenge I think getting $3K less than new - the implements you list are maybe $2K new - yes I know you have the thumb and tires but those dont add a lot of value to a buyer.

I wish I could paint a better picture, but thats reality at least in my case.

Carl

I talked to the dealer yesterday. Their quote for a B3200 with loader and backhoe was within a few hundred dollars of what the prices I'm seeing from people who said they bought from Barlows were.

The salesman said that they had a few B3200's left at the "old price" - and that once that inventory is exhausted - the price will be going up by a couple thousand dollars. Don't know if that is true or not - sort of sounds like a typical car salesman trick - but for now the price he quoted me for the complete package sounds pretty good.

The quote he gave me on trading in the BX23 though - I guess you could say it shocked me - a little. He was only going to give $6500 on the BX23. I don't think he really cared about the implements. My BX23 has been out in the weather some - some of the plastic is faded, it's got rust here and there around the edges, and it's got wear on the buckets. Everything is straight though - no big dents in either bucket and nothing is physically broken off or bent.

I'm thinking that the tractor is probably worth around $10k. I've seen a few for sale here and there and they were in the 10-12k area.

Looks like what will probably happen here is that I will sell the BX23 on Craigslist and put it up on a few tractor sites. Hopefully I will get some bites.
