Jim,

I went thru the same process trying to sell my B21 @ 430 Hrs, stored inside and very clean and well kept - you can see pics on here.

Dealer offered $12K and stated new B26 is $33K - I had a option to get a B26 on here from MissingsTexas so I advertised mine locally and on CL.

I felt a nearly new B21 (with 2x the capacity of the B23-25 series) should be worth $16500 but the closest offer I got was $14K range to come and "look". I replied yes you can look for $14K and then give me another $2K to take it home..

So I set a date - end April to sell mine and ulitmately let the B26 go to another TBN member for a great price, and I am keeping mine - for now anyway.

What we are dealing with today, there are a host of SCUT options, Yanmar/Cub 2450, Mahindra Max, JD 1026 and Kubota BX with TLB's. These new are all in the $16-18K range new and most didn't exist in 2003..

That was my competition - people think a used B21 with 2x the capabilty is worth a lot less than the new BX or 2450 Yanmar etc with 0%.

You have a challenge I think getting $3K less than new - the implements you list are maybe $2K new - yes I know you have the thumb and tires but those dont add a lot of value to a buyer.

I wish I could paint a better picture, but thats reality at least in my case.

Carl

The biggest problem I see is that it's hard to nail down a price. I can't seem to find a lot of BX23's for sale on the used market. The dealer offered $6500 - I'm thinking (maybe hoping is a better word) - that's worth around $10k. The reality is probably somewhere in between those two numbers.

So Jim,

Like car dealers they want to buy your BX $5K under value and sell you a new B3300 with BH at $25K and "sell" the 0% financing as the leverage. Then turn around and sell your BX for $13K or more. They make $ on both sides.

Similar to me when I inqured about a B21 to B26 upgrade. $12K trade for $33K new. They say Kubota hold their value, yes they do, but only for owner-owner transactions (which in my opinion is the true value).

You want to trade up a series, and thats understandable, and if you can sell yours locally then upgrade to a "Kubota/Yanmar/Kioti " tractor with cash in hand and finance the balance is the best bet.

There are so many more options today for TLB than 10 yrs ago.

As a point of reference, we just sold a used 2011 BX25 with 28 hours on the clock. 60" mid mower, 3 point hitch kit and two rear buckets. We retailed it for $14,800. 10K seems optimistic to me, at least in middle TN. 0% on new machines definitely softens the prices on used pieces.

Any idea on what you think would be a good price?

The tractor would probably sell configured like so:

BX23 with 12" bucket
front loader bucket with toothbar
auxiliary worklights in back
auxiliary lights in front (shine under raised bucket when driving)
thumb on backhoe
extra 24" bucket included for backhoe
three point hitch parts are all there.

Based on what I'm seeing - I'm taking a guess it could possibly go for between 9 and 10K. Does that sound realistic to you?

The quote he gave me on trading in the BX23 though - I guess you could say it shocked me - a little. He was only going to give $6500 on the BX23. I don't think he really cared about the implements. My BX23 has been out in the weather some - some of the plastic is faded, it's got rust here and there around the edges, and it's got wear on the buckets. Everything is straight though - no big dents in either bucket and nothing is physically broken off or bent.

I'm thinking that the tractor is probably worth around $10k. I've seen a few for sale here and there and they were in the 10-12k area.

Looks like what will probably happen here is that I will sell the BX23 on Craigslist and put it up on a few tractor sites. Hopefully I will get some bites.
I'm in MA too (close by: Winchester) and follow Craigslist for BX23/24 prices every few months. For the past five years I have never seen a BX23 listed for less than $11,000 and that is without any of the implements or improvements. The dealer is just trying to rip you off. They would turn that thing around in 24 hours for more than twice what they are offering you.

Stick it on Craigslist. Lots of suburban guys look for the BX TLBs and anyone who has done their homework on these things would be happy to pay you $12,000+ for the package. You might get some resistance from newbies who focus on the faded paint but 600 hours on a BX is really nothing if it has been well cared for and given the improvements you have made I'm sure that is the case.

You might need to separate some of the implements as not everyone will want a back blade or box blade but I would guess those would move pretty well on CL independently too.

Over "bundling" attachments is not a good marketing plan. That stuff returns the most being sold one at a time. Craigs flat works for those things. Well, it actually works well for almost everything.

Thanks Island - that's good info.

As soon as the dealer offered $6500 I knew he was massively low-balling me.

I just wanted to see what his price came back as. At least now I know.

There's a few small things I want to fix on the BX23 - once I do that I'll get it up on Craigslist. I figure the Woods box blade I will put up on Craigslist separately. I have a rear blade - which is a Cat1 - but I made adapters to set it up to mount properly to the BX 3pt. Both the box blade and the rear blade are setup with the pins for a Speeco quick hitch. Do you think anybody would go for a package deal of box blade, quick hitch and rear blade all together?

If I start selling stuff separately - I guess I'm wondering how separately I should go with it.

I've got a 24" bucket for the BX backhoe - pretty rare - I don't recall ever seeing another one for sale. It works great for certain things. As a for instance - I'm not sure if I would be better off bundling that with the BX - or selling separately.

Sell all the implements separately - or bundle them all together with the quick hitch.

Sell the quick hitch with the tractor - or bundle with implements - or sell separately?

I'll have to figure some of this out.

Implements hold different "value" to different people, according to their needs. If a certain persona really needs a Box Blade for a subcompact, they'll pay a respectable price to get what they need.

If a potential tractor buyer has little or no use for most of the attachments, they aren't going to want to pay for them. Let the buyers determine the "bundling". The big thing is the tractor. Let the serious tractor buyer determine whether he/she wants one, two or all of the implements. Certainly, you should know ahead of time what you want out of the pieces, individually and combined.

In your tractor ad in Craigs, make the buyers aware that the implements are available for purchase. See how it all plays out with your buyer(s). I wish you the very best in your pursuit.

I agree with bp fick. Be flexible and sell whatever someone is wanting to buy. The 24" bucket could be a challenge to sell with the tractor but some other BX owner with a special need might want it.

Thanks for all the replies - I'll sell the pieces off individually and see how that goes. My biggest challenge with the implements is that I'm not sure what I did with the original pins! When I put the quick change pieces on the pins got put aside and I'm not sure where I left them
