I advertised my cub cadet for sale last yr ,guy showed up with truck and trailer and cash in hand, Was happy to get it,
No offense but that's apples and oranges. The market for old Farmall one row tractors is off the charts. The value of them is sky high.

Dealers will only take trades in stuff they can sell and also make a profit on.

Put a Kubota sticker on your TYM it will sell faster.

When I had a situation like a trade in come up during a sale, heres what I would suggest to the customer.
Leave your tractor here at the dealership and we will sell it for you on consignment.
We would pressure wash and clean up the tractor for the customer (no charge) and put it with the rest of the machines for sale.
Of course we only did this if they bought a new machine from us, but in the end it was a win for both.

I traded my 5310 in when I got my 5090. It was sold before I could get it off the trailer.

I won't criticize the OP for not wanting to retail it. I'd say that's not all that fun job for many folks. Some here have given good alternatives to selling it yourself.

Yes, sell it outright yourself. You will get a lot more for it than a trade in. When I wanted to upgrade a few years ago, my dealer was only going to give me $10K trade in value. I sold it myself within a week for $18K (Basically what I paid for it 2 years earlier).

I could not fault the dealer. He took the time to explain how he got to the 'low' figure.... He would have to sell it at least $1500-2000 less than the same 'new' tractor just to get customer interest. He then said that he would probably have to negotiate with any prospective customers, possibly knocking off another $1K off the price or to discount other services. Then have to pay sales commission, then there is the overhead of the showroom/ service areas. Then, of course, any 'profit' above and beyond any costs of the dealership. Definitely more reasons are behind low 'trade in values'.

In today's market, one would think the dealerships could sell anything without too much difficulty, but the same market is almost changing on a daily basis. Getting dealers to change how they do business is almost impossible.

Good luck to you!

Sometimes things work better one way than the other. I bought the Ford back in '91 before selling the first tractor (Cub 154 LoBoy). Sold the Cub privately NP.

Was planning on selling a Kubota B7500 privately when I bought the L3200. I had a price in mind and when the dealer saw the B7500 he offered me a little less than I planned to sell it for. Since PA has a 6% sales tax and we could count the B7500 as a trade, the difference in the tax made it nearly a wash without having to deal with a private sale.

Spent a long time looking for a clean factory-cabbed tractor of 40 or more HP when the L4240 appeared at a used tractor dealer where a BIL had bought his a couple years earlier. Jumped on the L4240 and hung onto the L3200 for about a year before selling it privately.

I have been in many tractor dealerships over the years and none have been what i would consider friendly or very helpful, When it comes to trading they are just like car dealers, My son took his 2009 chevy avalanche Ltz with 140,ooo miles in to look at a new truck , They offered him 3500, He laughed and left , Lots of crooks out there.
I bought one and drive it now for five hundred, so be easy calling others crooks.
