Trading in my B3200 for a heavier tractor

the MX5100 is the sweet spot in the Kub lineup for most of us weekend warriors with medium acreage, dollars for dollars that thing is hard to beat.

and if you mostly work it in the woods than go with the R4, they dont win on every fronts but still score the best overall, this is especially true if you get one with a FEL.

Once you run a bigger machine you will never go back!
I had just the opposite experience in day to day usage. Guess it depends on overall needs.....

I have a L4400 and it is a wonderful woods tractor. But if I were to buy today I would get the MX4700HST or the MX5100HST not so much for the power but for the heavier built front axle and the stronger FEL.
The AG tractors are built much heavier. Owning an L4350 shows me that as this is before the split in the product line.

All depends on your uses and terrain. We can do everything with our L5030 that we can with our M8540, but due to the size, we can't do it all with the 8540; ideal situation is multiple tractors, but it's often not economically feasible.
Completely agree.

Just an opinion here...

#1 - Try to sell your tractor vs. trade it in, you will net more $$, but it will take longer.

#2 -If it were me, M beats L...

#3 - I am running R4's and as long as I start in 2wd, I have never been stuck yet (knock on wood). I have some very rough logged land with lots of lash and heavy debris. R4's are thicker and tougher. I will cry when I get a flat in one of my filled rears from a chunk of sharp debris... But I think R1's are more likely to get damaged that way.

:2cents: Your mileage may vary.

PS - Welcome to TBN, we like all posts, long and short. And Pictures as often as possible.

Be well,
David
M is heavier built than L after the split in product line. I opted for R-4's, got 10 ply and have not had a failure in 11 years. Valve stems, yes, tires NO!.

I called the dealer and he said it was like another $700 to bump to the MX5100 which isn't much. I was kinda worried about having a turbo for maintenance issues. He also told me since I am going to a class II versus the class 1 on my B3200 that I would need an adapter for my brush hog.

There is no maintenance on the turbo other than to let it cool down before engine shut down. There is no reason to have any worries about having a turbo, they only enhance the engine characteristics. ;)

I want to thank everyone for the feedback. I am almost sure I have what I need. The MX4700HST, FEL, 72" box blade with R4 tires at $25,900 before tax. The 5100 with turbo adds another $1k so I was wrong earlier.

See if you can get your dealer to throw in the guide rod leveler, it's pretty handy if you want a nice level cut.

Good luck and let us know what you do and when you get it.

Just for those who don't know, the L4400 and the MX4700/5100 are all built on the large-chassis Grand L frame. The later do have a heavier front axle as mentioned. Size/weight wise the L4400, L4240+ and Mx4700 are all pretty close. The real heft comes when you step up to the M5140.

Went and test drove the L4400 and MX5100 today. They were awfully close in height and width. Hopefully post picks after I make my decision this weekend.
