While ago guy comes to me and says in broken English, "my car is running bad", so I go out listen it sounds like a miss, spray water on the plug wires and he has two grounding out on the EGR pipe. So, I have a couple laying around we replace them and off he goes. Few days latter comes back, and in broken English, "my car is running bad", listen to it again no miss, so i take it for a ride and I think my dog is faster than this car. He fouled out his converter. This guy doesn't have a pot to piss in. He is working second shift milking cows so he can go home and watch his kids during the day. His wife works first shift as a CNA at a nursing home. We are pretty sure he is illegal, but can't figure out how he got past the company employment screen, his is a good guy hard working, so we, "see nothing" We are in the country here so you have to have a car to get around! So, what is a guy to do? Tell him to take it in replace your converter and $300 latter your outa there. That is his rent. He flat out does not have it. So, we lift it up with the skid loader, look the other way while he crawls under neath , have him cut off the converter, break the bolts off at the flange and gives it to me.
I take it home cut out the converter, weld in a pipe, put in an extender on the o2 sensor, give the old convector back to him and he installs the pipe. Three days latter he comes back to me, and in broken English says, "you make my girls, so happy." I'm like what do you mean, I thought my boys did something, we have twin boys the same age as his, in the same grade at school. No, "I sold the old converter and got money for birthday present". Our vehicles have all there emissions are stock and i have never taken a cat out of any of our vehicles. However talk is cheap, and this we need to do this and that to save the environment. It is always those that have money that are saying that. Some of these laws just think how hard it is making it on the poor. The cash for clunkers, it took all those cost effective used cars, the poor needed off the road! And I will tell you what I can't even count how many time i have done it and i have NO problems sleeping at night.
