Its too bad Dodge will not put that Asian Tranny in the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. They would sell tons more of them if they had a solid piece in that section of the market. The tranny issues of the 90's and early 2000's may be gone but I hear it daily that guys will not touch a Dodge again because of the stigma that they earned. The Asian would be a game changer for them and they would give Ford a run for there money.

Yea, the both get a bad rap. I know dozens of guys with them and the only real issues are EGR and Turbos. I have had 2 6.0L Fords and both were great trucks with not a single issue. I work them hard and both were chipped at 5,000 miles and have turned out to be great trucks. The early issues with them gave them such a black eye they were never able to recover.
Anyone remember the 6.2 and 6.5 GM's? What POS that was early on but I have a uncle with a 6.5L Suburban that has been a pretty good truck. Other than losing the injector pump twice its been very reliable. Yes, its a costly fix but the purchase price of the truck was so low he can afford to keep it going. If it were not for Isuzu bringing the Duramax to the GM lineup they would have had a hard time giving away a diesel truck.

Good choice, think you're going to be happy with it. Fine looking bed you picked for it too. Are the side rails hinged to fold down?

Cost has something to do it with I'm sure.
The 68RFE seems up to the task of the 6.7L torque as it is.
Attached is a better picture of the truck. The flatbed only weighs 1300 lbs so overall I believe I am under 9,500 lbs but will have to put it on the scales shortly to see what it weighs. For brakes the truck has hydraulic over electric brakes for added boost. Not 100% sure how that works but so far I have been impressed with the braking and especially the Jake Brake. I even wonder how I survived with my older F650 for so long without having an exhaust brake. I know Ford has this option as well and almost bought the F450 but for the capabilities of this truck along with the price I selected the 4500 Dodge. It is the first Dodge truck I have owned as prior to this every truck I bought was a Ford and my daily truck is still an F250.
As far as the log trailer I still need to mount my log loader/grapple to the front,but the big test will be how it will handle 20,000 lbs of payload downhill?. The logs bunks are fixed and cannot be removed.

Our F550 had little trouble going down with 24K pushing it. Rockies, Northern Ontario, Northern Quebec... no problem. The underpinnings on your Dodge would be very similar.
