Trailer decking

Wow Looks:thumbsup: NICE:thumbsup:
I did my part for re-cycling and managed to get a hold of some flooring from and old Hi-way van reefer trailer, the biggest part was separating it from the hardwood crossmembers and the urethane foam that was used to insulate and seal it all up, once that was cleaned up however it certainly went onto the trailer just fine, some heavy duty sheet metal deck screws and all done. It is very strong and will never rust or rot

Cheers

Roger

Ditto.........that's one nice looking rig. BTW, I went from the OE 2x6 rough oak to 2x6 PT and then to 2x8 PT with a couple 2x6 to make it come out even without ripping. This is over a fifteen year period. I'm not going to haul anymore gravel, dirt or rock however. I think such things hastens the rot. Besides, I'm starting to rot also.............also BTW, I tried to use the OE holes where the self tapping screws seated. It didn't always happen that way, and is more work, but was worth the effort in my opinion.
Cheers,
Mike

I've got good cross supports on my trailer and I put 2x10PT on mine about 25 years ago. It's held up real well all this time and there have been some real heavy loads on it. The 2x10 pine that was on it previously didn't work out well at all.

Never seen that one.

2 things come to mind.

Weight: that's about 2 square of shingles or 6 bundles. Has to be 300#.

Rot: no way to seal off the bottom side. I would think things would stay damp and rot worse.

Just use Pressure Treated Lumber. It will last 10 to 20 years. After its dry dilute a gallon of used diesel engine oil with a little kerosene and paint it on. The wood will soak it right up.

Chris

Take ATF and cut it with a little mineral spirits and spray the bottom with it. Straight ATF goes onto stuff that can rot, like wreckers.

You're in a great spot to get Apitong. I've got a 1970s box-trailer that I'd like to use that floor in, but its quite a bit more expensive here in OH than in your neck of the woods.

i used pressure treated. deck is 15 year old this year, broke my first deck board last week little disconcerting backing off the trailer and feeling the front end fall through. went back grabbed a piece of pressure treated ripped it to fit, new stainless hardware and done. i would like to use metal of some sort over the tires (deckover trailer) where the span is a little larger
