Trailer for BX23 or BX24

Thanks guys. You're right that there are not many good tiedown options. Damaging the paint has been one of my concerns. Looked this weekend, and going through the front frame is an option. I have the front weight bracket mounted also, which provides another option that I am going to pursue.

That bracket has five bolt holes for the weights, but I never use more than three. I think I could add some sort of eyebolts in the two outermost holes, then run the chain through them, thus protecting the paint (in absense of fire hose).

For the rear, I could run a chain through the hitch frame down low, but not w/o the paint damage. The I could always run it through the 3PH as suggested earlier in the post.

Other possibilities include using grapple hooks like used with car haulers sometimes. The grapple hooks would catch on the front and rear axles. Northern Tool sells them, but this option gets a little pricey.

And another thought:

Regarding the rear, how about attaching a clevis to the rear hitch point (@ bottom of frame), then running the chain through that? I rarely use the hitch, so I could leave the clevis in place most of the time. Any thoughts on this?

A couple random thoughts, in order /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
1. In my trailer needs questions, that is one I mention right off the bat; What are you going to with, and can it really handle a load? FWIW, my 7000lb trailer is 1600lbs; that may vary with manufacturer.

2. It's not just Fed rules... Here in Calif, you gotta have 4 tie points. States have to meet Fed level, but can exceed them too.

4. See from my pictures, I'm on a 16' trailer, with a 4' rotary mower and FEL on the tractor. Although my B8200 is a little bigger than a BX, you can see my mower tail wheel hangs off the trailer. What you don't see in the picture is with the loader bucket down, it is all the way to the front of the trailer. Even a BX would get long if someday you needed to haul a mower too.

I guess I'm the guy who posted the picture of the "D" rings on the backhoe. See attached photos. We have no problem running two hundred miles to my upstate house from Long Island.

The photos are great! Will you please provide a "shopping list" of the components you used and where you got them from for the front and rear d-rings, and the BH chain harness?

Thanks,

Joe

Hello Joe,
The tow hooks & "D" rings came from Tractor Supply Co. I think the hooks were about eight dollars a pair. The rings were about five or six bucks each. Please don't hold me to prices, I'm terrible when it comes to remembering prices.
The harness was made by drilling 3/8 holes in the hoe bucket web.The shackles are only 3/8, the picture makes it look much larger. The chain I had laying around and the slip hook came from TSC too.
The tow hooks were drilled on my drill press. You drill the holes as close as you can from the edge and then use a hack saw to slice them. The front rings were tapped into the brush guard and was backed up with a nut and lock washer. The backhoe rings was done the same, except it was backed up with a lock nut.
I hope this helps you .If you need any more information feel free to ask.
