Trailer for BX23 or BX24

( i hauled my b3030/fel/ballast box on a 16' flatbed car hauler. i don't think it would be long enough to try with a backhoe or bushhog attached. the weight isn't an issue. i just bought a used 18' just like the 16 and am fixing it up to use. 5k and 7k trailers are basically same (3500 lb springs and axles) but coupler and tire ratings are different. trailer brakes are a MUST. too much is fine, not enough is a problem and a waste of money. just my opinion.............. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

I couldnt agree more!! One reason I LABORED over getting a BX ?? and a B 2630 ( a buddy finally talked me into the B3030...lol) A guy dont have to use ALL he has...but ya dont want to NEED more than what ya got..not by a long shot!

Only thing I cant figure out??..Is why someone invented a WHEELBARROW when he could have had a FRONT END LOADER!!!....LMAO.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

How do you guys anchor the BX2200/22/23 with chains (i.e. anchor points)? I do not see a lot of great frame options though possible.

Also, somewhere in this thread someone recommended dual brakes on the trailer. How necessary is that? I have been considering a 6.5'x16' 7000lb trailer, but seems most come with one brake axle and one idler axle.

One braking axle is sufficient (on the rear axle), but both axles with brakes will fade less and generally work better. Trailer brakes are not as good as vehicular brakes and are much more susceptible to fade, so the more area you have the easier it is on them and the better they'll work.

edit: oh yeah, tie downs. I go through the front of the frame and through the 3pt hitch .

Get your self some firehose to protect your paint,to slip your chains through.HERES how i do it,the state dot said 4 corners, and each attachment,2 chains over the tractor would constitute 4 corners they said. but lets not get into that law thing......
one chain behind the grill gaurd,THATS THE EASY ONE
another chain under the swing piston on the hoe, OR you can run it in front of the rops. i have done this but it strains the fenders,so i cheat and put it under that bh piston.
another over the hoe bucket
one to the hook on my front bucket

the tough one is that rear tractor one, when i haul my chipper,i end up with 2 on the chipper[one on the 2 point hitch] well atleast im trying to please em.

4 corners, independently tied off... I use two chains, one front and rear. But I use four binders. Each corner is tied off and bound. Slack chain sits in the middle of the trailer...

It would be nice if they gave better detail, at state and fed level. Maybe even, a picture or diagram /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Doubt that will happen though.

Front. Chains attached to corners of loader frame, bound to trailer. Loader bucket is up for the picture.

Back. Note how my B8200 with the 4' rotary mower fills the 16' trailer, even though weight wise, it is relatively lite.

Also, I didn't safety wire the binders; I had just loaded the tractor to take some pictures for a similar thread this summer. Also note for the eagle eyes, I had a pto shield on order at the time...

Also note the spare tire! It has been used... Most trailers don't come with one; that is how they keep the price down. You can get the trailer for a good deal, but have to add accessories to it.

Thats a good job hooking that down, but these bxs dont have them places, the back is really tough, with the hoe on,the chain gots put on the attachment, rather than the tractor, which isnt what our dot up here wants..." TRACTOR HOOKED ON 4 CORNERS..and each attachment hooked down.this came right from the stAte police headquarters, last spring, when i went to see what i needed.

I have a couple of comments on these topics:

1. Any talk of a trailer needs to have mention of the tow vehicle. In KCOOK's case this is a Chevy Colorado. I believe that the max tow capacity of this truck is about 4,000 lbs. Marginally enough to tow a nearly 3,000 tractor and certainly not enough to warrant a 7,000 gross capacity trailer weighing almost 2,000 lbs itself!

2. While having chains at each corner does represent a "best practice", and one that I follow, it is not mandated by Federal regs for tractors of the BX size (your state may have a more stringent rule.) The Federal DOT rules can be found online.

3. I recall seeing a BX on TBN that had some nice D-Rings attached to the lower part of the BH mount that made securing it easy.

4. For the record... I have a 12' 5,000 lb aluminum utility trailer (dual axle, dual brakes) for my BX23 and it is a tight fit. One chain in each corner and one over the FEL and the BH. It doesn't move at all.

Good luck!
