Trailer for telehandler?

It sounds like your all set. and as others have mentioned, I'm wondering if your door plate will even show a GCVW with that (class) truck. The only other concern is a curious LEO questioning the const. equipment with farm tags, hey, your stacking round bales right?

You are not going to find a GCVR on the trucks data plate. Your truck should be able to trailer that telehandler without a problem on a suitable tag trailer. I'm not sure what your empty weight on that truck is, but I'm going to guess it is around 15k give or take. Lets say 11K for a 20ton tag, and 26k for your handler. That puts you in at only 54k gross. As long as you keep your axle weights legal you should be fine. I have personally run 3208 equipped trucks, with 5-speed Allisons :confused2: at 65-70k. You are not going to win races, but the 3208 will get you and your load there.

Laws vary state to state, but if you can legally qualify for the farmer CDL exemption it should not make a difference if you are pulling a trailer or not.

Tag trailers are cheap these days, when I was looking for my 14k deckover I found lots of used 10-20 ton tag trailers for half of what the 14k trailers were.

You should be fine with that truck and a good 20ton tag trailer. I use a friends similar up and all is fine.
CDL? Sooner or later you should just take the test and get it over with as you are running a setup that most officers will say you need one. The cost of the license is minimal in the grand scheme of things.

I actually took the written test a year ago, but then after talking to a number of people, I backed off. One item of concern was that my insurance agent said my rates would go up once I got a CDL. Another is that if I happen to get one of those photo tickets for speeding (which I did a month ago), the CDL prevents you from getting it purged with attending traffic school. It just didn't sound worth it to me to pursue the CDL.

I am an insurance agent, and having your cdl does not effect your insurance rates with any carrier I have dealt with. But if you use the truck for hire does, as well as your radius you use the truck and plate type you have the truck.

Yes most traffic laws are a little harded on cdl holders as you are supposedly a professional.

I wouldn't be using it for hire, just helping friends. And I would stay within the same 150 mile radius that my farm plate require.

Depends on your state license.
There are states that have class A,B non commercial (think RV) but you cant be hauling it for any paying work and don't forget the DOT # crap it is unreal get it hauled and forgetaboutit.
Farm use might you by though, tough call.
