Here is the trailer tongue box I mentioned. BTW, forgot to mention: tarp. Always have one with you /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Note the lock on the ball hitch and the snap clip I tried to describe. Also the insert with the rubber bushing on the pin between the ramps.

This is a picture of the removable ramp hinge pin. It makes it easy to remove one or both of the ramps to haul longer items.

I like having a "closed" back of the trailer and the side rails. Keeps things on trailer nicely, reducing the amount and complexity of tying down items.

And "no" I did not haul those blocks like they are without tying down. They are just leftovers from the wall and I haven't decided where to put them yet /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Hope this helps give you some ideas. Sometimes I really think things through too much, so it would be good if someone else can benefit from it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Very nice setup. I rented a Bobcat 325 mini excavator a couple of years ago, and when he drove onto the back of the trailer the rear of the truck came right up off the ground. The ramps sunk in a bit (They had bars like bigger tagalongs though).

Many times my imagination is lacking, and this is one. How in the world are you supposed to drive down the road with that over your tire, holding down a load on the trailer. I'm sure there's an easy answer, something I just am not imagining right! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif John

I had seen them before too...but it never occured to me that they could be used like that!

I guess I'm with John on this one...maybe because we both own orange? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's a poor farmer's trailer brake. Sort of works like an anchor- throw over the ends of the straps and hope it catches /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I put it on the tire and pulled the straps around to better show it instead of just a clump of straps and trying to explain it, but apparently you all don't appreciate all the trouble I went through to make things easy /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Is that D.O.T. approved? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

- For your reciever hitch, get a locking cross-pin for the hitch. I had an acquiantance who almost lost a horse trailer when the hairpin retainer clip came out.

- Loose the S-loops for the safety chains. Get the loops with with safety clips

- Always cross the safety chains, so they cradle the tongue if it comes loose.

- Get lots of chain and binders from the get go. At least four binders...

- Get a spare key for the tractor. That way, when you leave the key in it, and it blows out going down the road, you can still use the tractor.

- Have rope hooks put on. It is handy when you haul lumber, ect. It is easier to tie knots and hitches to hooks than d-rings.

- When you get a lock for the trailer, get one with a big loop, so you can loop the trailer wire through it too. Helps keep it from dragging.

- #6 is a "carbiner"

- Lots of rope, bungees is good idea; lots of stuff you can tie off...

- Get extra bulbs and lenses; especially taillights

- Make sure the license plate is mounted someplace sturdy. If it is hanging, it will get hit or snagged

--- Get a spare tire! and spare tire mount! Most trialers do not come with one.

- Get a lug wrench to fit the trailer... Nothing like having a spare, but no good wrench...

- Always keep at least something loaded; lumber, extra tires, whatever. If someone asks to borrow it, tell them it has stuff loaded.
