Here is what I added to my 10 ton gooseneck. Couldn't add jacks to the side, because it would've been over the legal width. These have worked great, loaded a 18K dozer and no more lifting the rear of the truck, or worse, having the ramps fold up into the ripper.

I also don't think slide in ramps would work form my trailer and loads. Those type ramps get pretty heavy when you want to load 18-20K.

My 16 trailer started out with slide out ramps stored under the sides (not room out the back). After cancer treatments, the ramps were just too heavy to handle anymore, these were 5' heavy duty ramps. I took it back to the builder & had the 5' ramp gate made, it had to hold up a 7500# tractor. When I was towing with the Chevy 2500, 6L I never noticed a difference. Now, with the 5.3L (not hauling as heavy now), yes, it does take a little gas mileage, but not enough to worry about!

In my situation, I'll stick with the ramp gate, much easier loading multiple tractors. I do use a trifold aluminum ramp on my 10' trailer, the 4x8' Snowco has a fold-down gate that will fold inside if needed. ~~ grnspot

Interesting info on the mesh. That explains the problem I was having.

I could put 3,000 lbs. of coal in my 98 Dakota v6 magnum and top the Summit Mountain(11% grade) at 70 mph. But using a 4x6 foot Lowes trailer(all mesh and angle iron), with the mesh ramp, and a 450 Suzuki quad........my truck strained to do 50 mph up the same mountain. I could watch the fuel gauge dropping while pulling the trailer.

I used to pull a 6 x 12 with mesh gate with a 96 Dakota with a v6 and a 5 speed manual. Empty mileage was about 20-21 when pulling the trailer 13. If I had a head wind the old truck couldn't even maintain 45 in high gear, would have to drop to 4th to pick speed back up. I now tow a 7 x 14 tandem, with the mesh gage, with a 2011 Ram with the Hemi, and a 3.92 rear. Mileage goes from 17 to 13 when pulling the trailer.
