Kubota Grand L3130
I have a Grand L 3130 Kubota with FEL. I am not buying a trailer any time soon, but always watching the market places for sales and private sales. If I find a deal, I want to know what I need. It’s no deal if it won’t do what I need it to.

My tractor is 3,200 lbs ( not sure if this includes FEL). I have recently added some weight to my box blade and believe it comes in at around 1,000 lbs.

Typically I expect if I take it off property it will be the tractor, FEL, box blade and a 5’ Brush hog ( planing to get a EA brand bush hog at 665 lbs). So ballpark weight total of 4,750 ( assuming FEL is part of the 3,200 of tractor)

What length trailer and what axels should I be looking for? Will one axle with brakes be enough? Or must have both?

Thanks for any feedback! Y’all are typically informative! That’s great for newbys

Tractordata.com shows the weight for your tractor at 3305 Lbs (WITHOUT LOADER).
Box blade per your number = 1000 lbs.
Loader with bucket...maybe 800 lbs? (my guess)
Bush Hog....your number... 665 lbs.
Est. weight of trailer itself ... 3000 lbs.
Thus, your total = 8770 lbs.
You should get a 20' trailer with two 5000 lb. axles, and with brakes on BOTH axles.

Thanks for the info on with or without loader.

I just spoke to my father and he told me I should be able to weigh it all together at the steel plant he works at! So eventually I will trailer the tractor there and weigh the tractor with FEL to know that weight for sure, then weigh the box blade alone. Eventually I will have the exact numbers.

But the info you provided helps for sure for now! Thanks!

You might want to consider a new trailer from Kaufman trailers in NC.
They have great pricing, and a great reputation among TBNers.
Do NOT make the all to often made mistake, of not buying ENOUGH TRAILER!

I surly don’t want to do that! There are some trailer places here in the TN/ AR/ MS area that would have something like this! Not ready to buy one and don’t need one often so not night on the list. But if a deal case up, I would at least know it fits my needs!

20’ foot will be cutting it close if your wanting to haul everything, I have a 20’ and mine fills it up real fast. You can always set everything in your driveway or yard as if it were on a trailer and get a idea of how long a trailer you’ll want. I also agree with fried on the axles and buy enough trailer the first time.

Now I will really throw you for a spin.

Tractor
Have an L3130, loaded tires, LA723 loader with extra hydraulics, and Bradco 408 backhoe.

Trailer
Load Trail 20ft steel deck trailer with 4ft stationary and 16ft tilt section with 2 7k Dexter Torflex axles with brakes on each plus tongue tool box with 6 binders and chains.

While I have never taken tractor to the scale by itself to get weight of tractor and hoe, when loaded on trailer with hoe and an extra bucket the trailer and tractor are well over 10k and getting closer to the 14k limit for the trailer.

With the tractor having a 5ft brush hog on the back the tail wheel is hanging off the end of the trailer and bucket flat at the front rail there is enough sticking out that if you had flip up ramps you would have a problem.

A 22ft trailer would be ideal but the economics of things the 20 and 24 have better utilization of materials, with you not having a hoe I would get at least the 10K trailer. Also depending on how the tractor is set up with implements you may not always run the loader up to the front rail on the trailer as you get real heavy on tongue weight.

So get at least a 20 ft 10K, sometimes 14k axles are not much more.

Torsion axles are not everyone's first choice and picky on weight distribution and leveling but they do give a nice ride when balanced and level.

I have an 18' trailer now. With my tractor, FEL, and 6' brush hog, it hangs over the back of my trailer by several feet.

If you then want to also be able to haul it with a box blade as well, I would seriously consider 24' as the absolute minimum.

My next trailer will be a 26-28' deckover gooseneck.

Someone else owns my 15+5 10k trailer because it was not enough trailer. I currently have a 22k duel tandem 20+5 trailer.

What do you have to tow it with? Does your state have a stupid 10k trailer law? If you have adequate tow vehicle and no 10k limit I would buy a trailer with tandem 7k axles. The 7k axles have much better bearings and brakes and the 16” tires are way better than the 15’s. You don’t need something that big but the cost difference isn’t that much and the trailer will be much better. You never know when you might want to haul more in the future. A heavy duty trailer can always carry light loads but a light duty trailer can’t carry heavy loads.

I bet you can find 100 guys who wish they had a bigger stouter trailer for every guy who thinks his trailer is too big or strong. Trailers last a long time. Don’t scrimp. Buy one that will serve your needs now and in the future.

Just a note of caution. Before I decided on ANY trailer to transport my tractor - I'd have it weighed. Its eleven miles for me to get to the ADM(Archer Daniels Midland) grain mills in Cheney, WA. They have large grain scales there - I've weighed my motorcycle on them. They are + or - 20 pounds.

So - after I bought my new Rhino 950 - 96" rear blade two years ago - I decided I'd make the trip.

What a surprise - My 2009 M6040 weighs - - 10,100 pounds on the grain scales. Its got a Land Pride SGC1560 grapple @ 820 up front and the Rhino 950 rear blade out back @ 1000 pounds. I've got the rear tires loaded with Rimguard for a total of 1550 pounds. I would have NEVER guessed it was that heavy.

Around here - I could have called the Dept of Transportation and had them come right out to my place with their portable scales. Price is somewhere around $150. If I lived close enough the DOT weigh station - I could have weighed it there. OR as I did - go to the local grain mill and weigh on their scales - it was free.

I have a 2015 F150 with a 5.0.

I will be taking it all to be scaled at my dads work. A steel plant.

J.Wal, I was stationed in Millington for A-School. Have fond memories (and some not so fond).

Anyway, I had a similar sized tractor that weighed al little less (L3800) and unfortunately bought a 16' decked trailer. It was too small. I'd put the loader bucket on top of the toolbox (on the trailer tongue a-frame area) and with the bush hog on, it would stick off the back by a couple feet or little more. I would have had room to put the box blade on the deck in front of the front wheels, but that would have pushed me back a little further with the bush hog as well and as it was, I had to the chain the ramps in the not fully upright position and all the way to the outside positions.

I have the same trailer now with my BX and it is adequate for that tractor, but would still really rather have at least 18'. If in your shoes with your tractor and wanting to load box blade and bush hog, I'd probably recommend no less than a 22', but preferably 24' trailer with tandem 7,500 lb axles and brakes on both. This will be near the upper limit of your truck probably fully loaded, but should still tow fine if you have proper tongue weight and don't try to fly down the road.

I had a L3130 HST,with FEL and a five ft.bush-hog it barely fit in my 24ft.garage.Go big and probably need a 10,000lb.rated so when you "trade up" you will have enough trailer.
The L3130 is a really nice tractor ,I only traded up to get a cab.

With a f-150 you won’t benefit much from any trailer rated over 10k as you will reach your trucks capacity.
