Im new to the forum and was hoping you guys could help answer a few questions ive been searching all over the internet to find...

So heres my situation, we recently purchased a komatsu front loader with a weight of 22,000 lbs, we currently have a trailer we use to haul our backhoe that is rated gvwr 20,000 lbs. Now in looking at higher rated trailers I have noticed that they are built with the same size beams and crossmembers as mine and as well have 2 10,000 lbs axels but they are rated at 25,900 lbs. Is there a way to raise the gvwr on my trailer by swapping the 10,000 lbs axels for 12,000 lbs ones, and if so where would you go to get trailer re-rated with a higher gvwr? All input and ideas are appreciated, basically im trying to figure out a way to llegaly haul my new front loader without having to go plunk down big money for a whole new trailer. Thanks!

To get a rating greater than the axle ratings is to carry the difference on the hitch as far as I know. It takes a heavy pintle set up to move 6-10K pounds to the rear axle of the truck.

There are so many factors that determines how much weight a trailer should carry. The tow vehicle can be a major factor too.

Welcome but the way.

You will need twin 15K oil bath axles at a minimum. Have to figure the weight of the trailer into the GVW as well as any fuel, chains etc. I'm guessing you're pushing 30K gross. I think you will be better off spending the money on a heavier trailer and selling the one you currently have.
Will this be towed as a gooseneck or tag?

Make necessary mods, lose title and Vin tag, apply for a homemade trailer title and Vin at the weight you need.

But going the the practical route is not everyone's cup of tea. :)

Yea, real simple. Unless you are hauling it often, hire it done! If that is not a option then Diamond's reply is a good one. CJ

Why not just renew the trailer at 30,000? Put on 15k axles, stronger tires , change the hitch if needed. Done. Maybe new stickers....

His trailer was built by a company and has a maximum GVWR on it. It can be registered for less but cannot be registered to exceed the MFG. specs.
However, if he replaces the axles and follows what Chris said he can register it for a greater weight but not to exceed the axle ratings.
