Trailer?

wroughn harv - your advice is right on! I built an 18' tandem axle trailer last year to haul my tractor. I ordered the axles for it with Ford 8 lug spindles to match my truck. As luck would have it, the first time I used it, I had a flat on the trailer, and I had to use my truck spare. I was mighty glad I took my Dad's advice and ordered the axles to match my truck...

We've got plenty of RV manufacturers just north of here

I must have had a blonde moment and forgot you're not far from me Gary. There is a great RV surplus/salvage place in Elkhart. They may have something reasonably priced. Let me know if you want the particulars.

We've got electric jacks on our fifth wheel and you could probably rig up something like that as well. Two jacks would be more stable and have more capacity /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Mine has a jack in the tongue V that is for a semi trailer. It is very easy to turn up, so easy infact that you have to watch it to make sure you're not jacking it up instead of letting it down. Very little difference in labor.

Hey, Rob. We went over to Elkhart last week looking at trailers. There is a place on 19 just south of CR6 that had hundreds of trailers. Looked pretty nice. Now I can't decide between the car hauler or landscaper types.

Car hauler would be better if I wanted to haul some dirt, since it has a solid floor. I could also weld on some sides if I needed.

On the other hand, landscaper already has sides, but wood plank floor. I could lay down plywood if I needed to haul dirt.

Both about the same price. Both with the same 3500# axles. Now I'm just gonna wait a week, then go back and take a second look.

There should be a third option......a custom built. He should be able to give you precisely what you want with the options from both types that you want. I had mine built like that and he even took the paint numbers off my truck and painted it to match. It was delivered 14 days after I ordered it.

Just tell him you want the car hauler with sides from the landscape trailer or the landscape trailer with a solid floor.

MossRoad:

If you go for the car hauler with stake pockets. You can always add your own sides later. This gives you the advantage of being able to remove them at your conveince, if you want to side load / unload palletized or awkward loads.

David, you must me talking about MSI in Elkhart. I looked there and almost bought but ended up getting a much nicer trailer for a little more money at Tuff Top on Bristol. I got a car hauler with stake pockets and rub-rail. As someone else mentioned, you can always add sides with the stake pockets and I'm finding it handy to have no sides to deal with for general use. You're welcome to have a look at my trailer any time you want /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Almost forgot... a buddy here at work has 14 or 16 foot landscape trailer for sale. I can get some details on that if you are interested.

has anybody looked into getting a dump trailer? I used to have an old dodge dually dump and I miss it sometimes. However I dont miss the ride /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif . I bought a F350 superduty and it rides like a car. Anyway I'm not going to go to the gravel yard and let the operator dump gravel in and down the sides of the new truck bed. So I thought about getting a pull behind dump trailer. Then I thought why not get one that my 2910 can go in if I need to transport it. I should have plenty of towing capacity (F350 w/V10). Looking for pros and cons to this line of thinking. Also if anyone has any experience with these types of trailers (brands, worthwhile features to look for , etc) Thanks in advance guys

Paul, I think a dump trailer would be real handy to have. The ones I've seen have the bed over the wheels so it's pretty high. Not sure I'd want my tractor (and it's center of gravity) up that high driving down the road /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
