I agree. It's unlikely there would be 120 volts on one of those industrial (A-B Type) three pushbutton (up/down/stop) controls. More like 24 VAC or DC???

I mentioned before. My Chamberlain Jackshaft opener, due to low drop on the track, and the inclusion of helper springs, cannot be opened manually. Of course, that never occured to me. Until the power failed, my main generator battery was dead, and I dragged out a portable (Diesel) Yanmar generator. That was a year or so ago, and the garage still stinks!

you got that right. especially hate the people that complain of gun shot noises when someone is out target shooting. the police here tell them to move back if they dont like it, cause there not going to stop it.

Coming from a past gun nut, I maintain that gun shots are very un-nerving. I siad it before. I feel so sorry for what my neighbors had to endure.

Where we live, in close proximity to South Bend, gun shots during the day from the west is someone practicing. At night, gunshots to the east and south, someone's getting shot at. And yes, it's that frequent for both.

well, i personally dont see how a control can be line powered, as all reversing functions are done at the motor. Every unit i have ever worked on, and my background was mostly as a commercial and industrial electrician in the union, were 3 button controls fed by 18 ga control wire. I guess someone out there might have a line voltage control, but for the life of me i cant see how you can reverse direction on the unit by this method.

All that is require to reverse a single phase motor is to reverse the polarity of the start coil.
It can be done with push buttons or a drum switch.
