Travel Trailer Questions - thinking of a long trip

So lets say you're going on a three or four month ramble across the south. Do you take a gun just in case or is a gun just asking for trouble with local and state authorities?

Check for yourself the laws for each state that you plan on visiting. My gun rights are too important to take chances on "someone said" or "should be okay"... I always read for myself.

With that said, my family's life is more important than my rights. IMHO, learn the laws, then use good judgement.

I like the fiberglass trailers.

The Fiberglass RV Community

Especially Casita. Not full of beds, and the cabinets are molded fiberglass, too.

Still looking for a good used one in the NW.

We have a 17ft Casita. Best trailer we have ever owned. They're small....perfect for two people and two good size dogs. I pull it with a 2003 Chevy 2500 HD 4x4......doesn't even know it back there. These trailers don't leak like rubber roof trailers. They do have rivets.......I have replace several over the years...takes just a few minutes. These trailers also hold their value better than most other trailers. Bathroom is small but very usable.....including the shower. We really like this trailer.

My wife and I don't camp anymore but those Casita's really look like the perfect set up for couples wanted to camp. Great resale value. Almost impossible to find them for sale used. Folks hold on to them.

Yep.......if your looking for a used one.....go with cash.....it won't be on the market very long. We've had several trailers over the years.........by far......this is the best one. The only bad thing about them.......when you pull into a campground.....everybody wants to look inside. When I pull into a campground.......I am set up within 10 minutes minutes.....sitting outside with a beer enjoying the great outdoors. I love watching folks pull in with a 35+ ft motorhome. Husband and wife yelling at each other.....leveling the darn thing......setting up the slideouts.......hooking up the TV dish.....etc...... Takes them at least an hour or more. After they get all done......the husband often wanders over.......says...."man your trailer is small." I say....."Yea.....it is....wanna a beer?" We love the trailer.........

I hear that - small is beautiful. I have witnessed comparable situations with people with boats. The guy with the big boat is always up against something whereas the guy with the small boat makes a few preparations and goes out on the water.

As I start my search I've already figured out that I don't need a lot of sleeping space, storage space, or features like pop-outs. I would like to get enough length to have tandem axels but not much more than minimally required. Plus, smaller is lighter for towing. After all, I'll be traveling alone for the most part so small truly is beautiful.

And while we are on the subject of spousal yelling, nothing puts a strain on a marriage like spouses "collaborating" in backing a trailer of any type. One will yell "left" and the other doesn't know if that refers to the back of the trailer, the back of the truck, or the front of something. The whole situation tends to spiral downhill rapidly.

Couldn't agree more. Years ago.......we watched a wife giving backup directions to her husband and he backed a brand new motorhome over a small hill right into a creek. He got out.....started yelling....."Why didn't you tell me to stop?" Luckily....they didn't do a lot of damage but we used a tow rig had to get them out. Things were real quiet in their camp that night.

Then there is the story of a truck driver backing up to the pier at the Washington Navy Yard. He got just close enough and his spotter yelled "ok, that's good." Which where I'm from means "close enough, stop" but to him it meant "going fine, keep coming." And yes, the truck went over the wall and into the water. Communication can be soooo important.
