Had a few hours this evening after a very hectic morning to start beefing up structure and then hung the first set of stair stingers. Used the FEL on the soon to be gone B26 to lift a few things and support the base frame during parts of the work.

Tell me it is not so... "soon to be gone B26" :(

Nice job cutting stringers. Not to steep for the kids.
Thanks for the update, keep up the good work, the kids will love it for years.

Selling the B26 to a fellow TBN'er so while I'll miss her, I'm certain she'll be in great hands. I'm on the lookout for a similar sized machine slightly used and in my budget. The problem with the B26 is I have so much tied up in it I can't afford to get all the implements I've been dreaming I had.

Cut the second set of stringers and set a few more posts for a platform, built the platform and screwed down most of the decking. Anybody know the standard spacing for railing slats? I'm planning on a 36" tall railing but not sure how many vertical slats I need. I have close to 45' of railing so I may even consider a fencing material that would be safe for the kiddos.
My youngest was napping when I got started today after church and lunch, the response she gave me, made this sore back soooo worth it. "DAD, there's STAIRS!!!!!".

Nice project! 4 inches between balusters is the common building code.

Balusters! I was drawing a blank. Thanks for the info!

Ok it's been a few weeks and I haven't really hassle much time to work on it but I did get a few hours in 2 days this past weekend. I decided to use welded wire instead of wooden balusters. I've been to a few parks where they used this stuff and I kind of like the rustic look. Once I put the finishing touches on the stairs and railings I can start trying to frame a non-square house :)

4" is too wide,considered a possible head trap,less than 3 or more than 9

I took the most of the summer and all of the winter off and recently started up again... I have siding hung on 3 walls and have started on the last side but will have to take a few more weeks off with other stuff. I've learned a lot and also realized I'm no carpenter. Enjoying the process and the girls are loving the progress.
