I am in the market for a tree/post puller and have read several threads discussing the different designs and manufacturers. Since I already have a grapple, I like the idea of using a 3 PT mounted puller in conjunction with my grapple. The problem is I lean toward the design of the front mounted "scissor" style in lieu of the 3 PT mounted horizontal slider. Does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes a good"scissor" style unit for 3PT mounting?Bradco and Danuser make top of the line front mounted, however, expensive units. On the other end, I have read good reviews on the $800 Titan. In the middle, the RSE Fab product looks like a good, robust design with the tree in the center of the attachment and priced around $1600 delivered. Another good looking, heavy unit is the CL Fabrication which I think is around $2200. The puller will be going on a 95HP cab tractor. Thanks in advance for your advice and comments.

Can't help other than suggest a 3pth to SSQA adapter and then put the loader attachment on the back.

Also, can you back-up close enough to whatever you need to pull without putting your cab at risk?

I can back up to a lot, but not all, of what I need to pull. I will also have to either pull or cut off several old posts in a wooded area. Will have to cut my way in.
I know you have the Bradco Jawz and it looks wicked. No doubt it does the job.

I've been looking at them as well. I've decided on the Titan because of cost and good reviews. If it were something I was planning on using for years and years I might opt for one with the front teeth like the Notch MFG tree puller. There's another manufacturer that has a similar setup but they're all easily 2-3x the cost of the Titan.

I just made one for the loader and it works good. Mine is in the center of the loader and I have seen them off to the side, don't think that is a good ideal. What I found not so good, I wanted to be able to see the base when I hooked on to the tree. The cross tube on the loader is right in the way. The only other thing I didn't like was I would cut off some of them. I only have a 2" cyl. I think I might put a pressure regulator on it. It sure pulls them out good and you have control over the tree, beats the ---- out of a chain and only one person can do it all.

I don't favor the ones where the tree is not centered in the puller. The Notch unit is similar to the Danuser with the serrated front arms to use for light digging. I am going to ask Notch for specs. on the width, thickness and grade of steel used in the front arms. Can you post pics of the one you made?
Thanks

Will Notch make it fit the 3 point and the Loader?

I am going to ask them if they would do it and how much extra $. Would really be nice to have this (or any) puller work on either end. I have read your posts and noticed you have the "Buckthorn" extended puller. How do you like it thus far?

Yep, I have had the Buckthorn Long Arm puller for almost four years. It is super strong and works very well.

It can also be ordered to fit on the 3 point too.

Notch offers the puller either 3 PT or SSQA - but not combined. Even though the hood on my tractor has a generous slope for aiding FEL visibility, the 3 PT would be much better except for the trees being closer to the cab and wrenching my neck.

Looking seriously at the Notch tree puller but wondering if I'll be able to see what I'm doing with it out on the FEL,

Also wondering if my L2501 will be able to handle it?

I know its expensive, and I can understand the reason for NOT purchasing it. But I have to say, I would purchase the Danuser Intimidator all over again. It is just that good at doing what it is supposed to do. I am sure there are others which will also do the job, and that Notch looks like it might do the trick. I will tell you, I would highly recommend putting it on the FEL rather than the 3pt. You will find that the mobility and usability on the FEL is worth it. Just pile everything up, then switch to the Grapple and move it where you want.

See... I took that big stack of trees and that empty space... and planted them! That's just how good I am with the Intimidator.

I think the FEL visibility on the L2501 would probably be good. As for the tractor and loader being able to handle the puller, I would contact Notch and get their recommendation on minimum tractor HP, weight and hydraulic flow. You would also need 3rd function hydraulics to operate the hydraulic cylinder on the puller.

Thanks for the :thumbsup:eek:n the Intimidator. The idea of mounting on the 3 PT is history due to the close proximity of trees to the cab and the extra $ spent on a 3PT to SSQA adapter in order to use the attachment on both ends. I am leaning toward the Notch but have not ruled out the Intimidator. I would have liked to watch you plant those trees you pulled.

I'm still leaning toward the Titan puller but I do have some reservations about fit issues I've been reading about with Titan products in general. It shouldn't be surprising there are quality issues since it appears that the Titan products are Chinese made with low QC.

Another manufacturer I've recently come across is Jenkins (Post & Tree Puller | Jenkins Iron & Steel Skid Steer Attachments). They seem to make a good quality, american made tree puller. Their price is $1200 shipped.

For those without a cab it can be made to fit front and rear, without a 3 point to SSQA or JD QA adapter.

It can be done: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachments/318149-tree-puller-pleased-my-new.html#post3845905

LouieJunior's either end puller.

The only drawback I see to the Buckthorn is the lack of the capability for digging roots which you can do with the Intimidator and the Notch. But since I have never used a puller of any type, I may be 100% wrong on the need for digging roots.:confused3:

Right, I use a stump bucket for digging.

My point is the Intimidator or the Notch could be made to fit front and rear.

Here is my UltraFork frame, SSQA and 3 point.
