Tree tipping, land clearing and drainage

Mboulais -

Not to beat you up or criticize here - but who did you build the playset for?

Yeah - I never wore seatbelts, or used a ROPS, blah blah blah, etc. when I was young and I'm still here too, but now that I have kids and a wife that depend on me, and I know better, my priorities and decisions are different.

If we found out you rolled your tractor over and no one here had said anything then we would feel bad - If you roll your tractor now - we will still feel bad for your family

If pointing it out saves just one life or prevents one serious injury every post will be worth it.

IF IT SAVES JUST ONE LIFE! I too was greatly disturbed by viewing such a blatant display of potential injury or (almost eminent) Death. As I looked at the pictures I kept expecting the next one to be set at a cemetery with the widow in black and the children crying. But clearly Marcel’s blood would be on someone else’s hands, for his slayer would be the tractor and not his own actions. There is a huge loophole in are legal system that allows ROP’s to be rendered ineffective by folding them down. This gross oversight will place a burden on society with skyrocketing health care cost and high insurance premiums, not to mention the cost to raise all the orphan children. The Mahindra tractor needs to join the ranks of such killers as the Chevrolet Corvair, the Honda ATC and (gasp) the AK47 assault rifle. Clearly the US government needs to start regulating the sale and use of this type of equipment. Marcel’s tractor is as much of a threat to public well being as alcohol, tobacco and firearms. We should have a tractor amnesty period, during which all of these sleeping killers could be collected and destroyed. I would like to see an amendment to the constitution that would create new laws regulating the purchase and use of agricultural and industrial equipment. Potential purchasers should undergo stringent background checks and mental health analysis. There should be restrictions on the type, size, and number of farm tractors a person can buy in a one year period. Who really needs more than one 40 horse tractor anyway? There should be a special permit required to purchase and operate a compact diesel, because we all know they have no real agricultural purpose. Permits should only be issued after 40 hours of classroom instruction and should be renewed every 3 years at a cost of $700. There should be a new law enforcement body created that would enforce the registration and operation of this type of equipment, with the authority to come on your property ,confiscate your equipment and remove your minor children from harms way. Our federal judges should file lawsuits against every major equipment manufacturer and the proceeds should be used to provide Blackhawk helicopters for the equipment law enforcement officials (E.L.E.O.) HEY, IF IT SAVES JUST ONE LIFE, IT WOULD ALL BE WORTH IT! Right? Haven’t we heard this bleeding heart B.S. before?

I am reminded of the words of Thomas Jefferson who said “those who trade liberty for safety soon loose both”

I fear the ditch digging won't be done by Saturday. I only have about 30 ft left before the two sections of ditch meet, but it looks like the section I dug first isn't going to be deep enough. I think I will need to dig another foot deeper over the entire length of it (120 -150ft) and I will need to move the remaining dirt piles from digging the ditch originally before I can do that. I purchased a Stihl MS310 tonight to help with the tree clearing too.

Had a frustrating evening tonight. I got the ditches connected, and as I feared the rest of the ditch needs to be deepened. That's not the frustrating part though. I am having some issues with the borrowed hoe, and after having the lower pin on the boom work out almost completely tonight I have decided to park it rather than risk anything happening to my best friends 'hoe. The keeper for the pin was just a rubber bumber with a threaded stud on the back. One screwed in each end. I got it back together after limping out of the woods (1.5 hrs of cursing involved). I am more frustrated with myself than with the equipment. Wish I had spotted that before it fell off. It looks like I will hire another friend & coworker to finish up. I was going to get him to do some digging after the borrowed hoe goes back anyway.

My choice, my problem.

Okay everyone, cut him some slack. His statement here is the key ! He is an experienced tractor operator, and understands the risks. At this point, I fully respect his judgement of HIS situation.

JerryG, please back off. If you want to start a thread on rops safety then you have our full support, but please don't ruin or otherwise hijack this fellows thread or ruin his pride in his accomplishments. His response might be to stop posting. Personally, I'm rather enjoying it.

In other words, let it go.

Thanks all, and have a blessed day/week

My sentiments exactly Kbota. What does 4 days or 4 weeks or 4 minutes have to do with anything?

Have a blessed day all.

good choice on the saw. i bought a 310 last year to help clean up around my place, it's an amazing saw and sounds beautiful when cutting. i am going to get an 170 for some of the smaller tasks i have around here and for cutting higher branches. i also have the hs80 30" double-edged hedge trimmer, another awesome tool to have around the farm.

cheers,
bigballer
