Trespassing signs, etiquette, good & bad neighbors

Here's the quote:
"In my entire life, including living at home as a child not once has someone came unannounced that my family or me wanted to see."

That, to me, means exactly what it says

Grandma, what are you doing here?

Grandma had enough respect both for herself and us to call ahead and make sure we would be home and didn稚 have plans to go anyplace.
It痴 real funny to me that no one ever seemed to not be able to call ahead back then before the cell phone but in today痴 world with a phone in most peoples pockets, chargers built into thier cars they find it impossible to call ahead?
The key words here are RESPECT too many people don稚 understand it, and certainly don稚 practice it if they do!
The second is TRESPASSING as defined in the dictionary and anyone with any RESPECT would use the word as intended so that others would be able to return that respect when they need or want it.
Instead they pretend to not understand he meaning of a very simply defined word so they can try and have thier way because they would rather be right no matter how wrong hey are. They would rather try and take a cheap shot at someone like me by stretching what I said to sound as if I am anti social or some kind of mean militant.

Sorry folks you got he wrong person here!
I won稚 give, My friends and family will still show respect by calling ahead as will I when I feel like visiting. We won稚 be intimidated, insulted and we won稚 be duped into being part of the demise of our culture because it痴 convient for you and your ego!

Yeah, you wouldn't want grandma dissing you with no respect by stopping in to say hi unannounced.

My dad gave my sister a few acres in one of his fields, and she still lives there. Not only did they both drop by regularly and unannounced, they didn’t even knock to come in.

Some here would consider that breaking and entering.

I gave my neighbor their own combo for my door lock.

I think the point is that no trespassing means you do not enter unless you were invited. For example you order something that is going to be delivered via UPS. The UPS driver can enter because they are invited.

Dude going door to door selling encyclopedias, religion, or whatever, nope sorry you do not enter I did not invite you.

Family/Friends going to be different depending on the situation. For me family and friends have an open invite and they know it. Other people do not feel that way about their friends/family. That is their choice.

The last thing in the world I want is NEEDY people showing up. I hadn't seen an old friend in over thirty years. He called me last week and by chance he lived in the Area where I was going to an auction on Saturday. I welcomed him to come by the auction. Next thing, it seems he doesn't have transportation, and wants me to change my plans (and that of another friend who was with me) to go see him. No way.

If I make plans two weeks from now for a friend to come by, you can set your watch by his arrival. I like that. Gives me ample time to put the dogs in, lower the gates, turn off the alarms and kill the juice to the electric fence.,

Some interesting viewpoints, but on my land, only my opinion and the law matters. My "No Trespassing" signs are at the end of my driveway, one on each side. I have been known to have a trespasser come to the house and when I went out, I walked to the end of the driveway and checked the signs to make sure they were still there.. then ask the trespasser how I can help, should I call 911? Must be an emergency to break the law over..

Nobody is telling other folks to change their practices. Just a few folks commenting that the "don't want anyone to stop by" mindset expressed is hard to relate to. To each their own. Carry on.

Trespass laws here are set by the provinces, and vary greatly. Lawful reasons include to "communicate", but within reason.

Criminal trespass is federal law but really only comes into play at night (9pm-6am) if there is a residence on the property. Best you can do is remove someone trespassing. And using force...you are better off using the 3 S's: Shoot, Shovel, and Shut-up.

Actually we wouldn稚 have wanted Grandma to have to drive all the way here only to find no one is home, or we are just pulling out of the driveway.
What is really fascinating is that it was my Grandmother who is responsible for teaching us all to never show up unannounced unless it痴 an emergency and everyone here is trying to se her as the victim! Just goes to show how off today痴 society really is.
