The pic bellow is what I use at the top of the drive way. My dad made it for me and so far it has worked. I wanted to get a full size skeleton and but it in one of those medieval cages and hang it half way down the drive way with a sign that said last chance, but the wife thinks I am going to far.

I always go to the location they are coming into my property from, put a sign and make it more difficult for them to get through. One location has a sign and a large mound of earth and stones as they were coming through with skidoo's and ATV's. It's a little more intimidating now and so far has worked for that location. People walking on the land is a little harder but I find it's the skidoo's and ATV's are the problems as most people around here are too lazy to walk several acres. For this problem I plant trees in the path as they are your best friend when it comes to machines. Yes they can run them over while young but if you transplant a decent size few, it makes it a lot harder for them.

I have been wanting to get those! Every spring the entire county sneeks up the Kennebec River valley to clean out or fiddleheads. Last year scared the crap out of a guy by "pretending" I was target shooting. Asked him who he had permission from and his reply was "The property owner." Ahhhhhhhh......

I then proceeded to ask him if he had noticed all the concrete filled caulking tubes stuck in the ground. He had. Then asked him if he wondered what they all were. He did. Asked him if he ever wondered what a tube full of concrete would do to the human body at 700fps when fired from over 1800 feet away.

I told him I strongly felt that stealing fiddleheads in the middle of a cannon test range, which was downrange of a rifle range, was probably a pretty stupid thing to do. It didn't take long to leave, and he was nice enough to leave me two trash bags full of fiddleheads.

I had this sign made a few years ago by a local sign company. Most sign companies will make up a sign for you, just tell them what you want. Think it was only $20-$25, it's a good size and is on aluminum. I installed it using long lag bolts to help deter theft, it's also about 12 ft up the tree. Not showing any signs of wear or fading, should last a few more years.

I would make a sign that said, "TRESPASSERS SHOT ! SURVIVORS, PROSICUTED! Then go out at different times of the day or evening and waste some rounds of ammo. This worked great for me. Its kinda funny to hear stories people make up about you after hearing a lot of gun shots at different times of the day or evening. . . John

Go to a local sign shop and they can probably cut the vinyl letters and mount them on a backer board. Then you can mount that with screws/fender washer.

My local shooting range (on private land) has those signs all along his property line. It just says, "CAUTION GUN RANGE" and is probably a 8 x 12" sign. Red letters on white backer. The wording is probably only 2" letter size.

I made a 3' x 4' sign for our bed and breakfast and only paid $50 for the backer board and $30 for the lettering. I put it together myself. So not too costly.

I am surprised that anyone has land not fenced. I wonder why? Where I lived, not fenced is an open invitation for ner do well types to make them selves at home.

If you can figure out how to fence my mountain land at less than $500 a ft for probably half of it please let me know....
Since I also own the area's watering hole let me know how fences will keep idiots out but let wildlife come and go...:confused2:

Skyco has a good point. I spent a year fencing our place in. Our livestock is safe and no problems with trespassers. But it has totally turned the wildlife off. I'm not really sure if I'm happy with the tradeoff. I have never had any luck with signs. Fences and big dogs work perfectly but the wildlife will go away.

we have this problem here in upstate NY.big time. Signs did no good.. AND infact one day I caught a hunter in a tree stand and he told me he had permisssion from his great grandfather who had permission from the previous owner of the property and it was an eternity gentlemans agreement. LOL I ask him if his grandfather would like to pay my taxes he said he was dead .. lol then so is the agreement so one more time ' you are trespassing" oh and if that is not good enough for you look through the woods about 500 yards. There is our rifle range backstop.. he said he thought the rifle range signs were a joke.
We have not seen him for a while. I have trail cams out and also have painball grenades on trails near the rifle range as the ATVrs have ridden directly through our range lanes. NOT smart. I think the only thing that works is having a gun with you when you catch em .. just having it on the Rhino or Tractor they tend to wonder if your a nut case.. HAH>>> I am OK with that.

Here in Pa., that could get the landowner put behind bars.

Skyco and whistlepig both made valid points. Fencing will not solve the trespassing issue by itself. Fences and gates can be climbed. Even a locked chain on a gate poses no problem for determined trespassers. They will proceed to cut the chain and have even been known to cut fences to gain access. Constant vigilance does aid in curtailing the problem and aids in enforcement. But this is not always possible. There is no single simple solution. There are countless people in this World that have no respect for a person's property. Property that was obtained by hard work and sacrifice makes no difference to them.
