Trex for decking

I put in 10' x 30' Trex deck and like it.

One nice thing is you can hide the screw heads. When the screw countersinks the material mushrooms up around the screw. Push this material back over the screw head and hit it with a hammer, its almost unnoticeable.

I want to do the same thing, my joists are 16" on center, did you have to add more joists? Will Trex span the 16"?

Yankees,

My joist are also 16" on center. I used the 2x6 trex with no problem at all - the decking is very firm.

About 3 yrs ago, we built a 16x20ft deck, topped with trex. It is roughly 5/4 x 6 in boards. Works easily. Mine is 16" OC. The sagging/buldging I have is due to irregularities in the sub-structure. Yes, the trex flexs some, but I can live with it.

It is not slick when wet, but mine does seem to get a moldy like stuff on it as it's on the north side. I power wash it off and plan to use some bleach on it sometime.

I wanted the trex for benches, but didn't want to have vertical support every 16"! So I built some metal supports that are on about 4 ft centers, and had them powdercoated. Had to run 1/4 x 4 steel strap (also powdercoated) under the trex boards to give it structure.

Pics are the end result. We really like it!
