B-25 was a medium bomber, not a heavy. A friend of mine was the pilot on the B-25 Heavenly Body when the did the reenactment of the Doolittle raid in San Diego. A little nervous he was the first one off.

The English used the other heavy a lot over the Atlantic for sub chasing. It had a far longer range than the best English and carried almost twice the bomb load.
The star of the show, in the battle of Brittan was the Spitfire. But its older, partly wooden counterpart downed almost twice as many German planes.

You're probably referring to the half track version of the "deuce and a half". That was the standard heavy army truck with 4 rear wheels (replaced with tracks for the half-track version) and 2 steering wheels. All-wheel drive via transfer case andnormally with front wheels not driving. **** on steering and tires if not needed.
