What company was the first to produce a "Motorized Lawn Mower"???

Art Afrons (and his brother Walt) was into land speed records and his vehicles were usually called Green Monster.

I saw this beast (or one of its variations) at the national drag races in OKC in 1957. It was a monster!

The British produced, among others, two well-known fighter planes that weighed heavily in the Battle of Britain...the Hawker Hurricane and the vaunted Supermarine Spitfire. The Spitfire is touted as one of the best fighters of WWII; yet the tally of enemy planes shot down was less than for the Hurricane. Why? Hawker went on to develop three more advanced fighters/bombers, including one of the fastest propeller driven planes ever produced. What were they?

The Spitfire was a higher performance aircraft than the Hurricane. Spitfire pilots went after escorting fighters while the Hurricanes went after the bombers which were an easier target.

Yep. Although they were both in production at the beginning of the war, they put more than twice as many Hurricanes in the air than Spitfires...plus the Hurricane was easier to build because of the method of construction...and I don't think the Hurricane was that much inferior to the Spitfire, at least the first models. Hawker built some pretty formidible planes later on though, namely the Tempest, the Typhoon, and lastly the Sea Fury.

In 1943, a stunt involving 4 B-17's Flying Fortresses occurred during a public event in NY City. This stunt angered Mayor Laguardia such that he complained in the press that the pilots should be disciplined. The pilots were reprimanded and fined $75. What was this event and where in NYC did it occur?
