I remember seeing horizontal traffic lights in California while out there on business. Drove my color blind teammate nuts!

Maybe its to keep them from swinging when it gets windy is my guess. they sure look a lot safer that way.

I've seen horizontal traffic lights in a Philadelphia suburb, they were on the side of the road on a pole. The lights barely made it beyond the curb. I almost didn't see the first set I encountered. Well, I think that was the first set. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

I've seen them in Indianapolis which was also the first place I ever saw traffic lights on poles at the curb rather than hanging overhead. I must've run ten of them before I realized where they even were. Luckily, no accidents and no tickets that evening.

I've seen them in South Dakota -- and, IIRC, there was no agreement between towns as to which end was red.

And while we're on the subject, can someone from the Massachusetts area explain the meaning of blinking green to me?

Just to show that it is easy to set a light pole in the back yard if you have the right equipment.

Notice that I don't discriminate, my equipment comes in all colors.

But now I have to change the bulb, it only lasted 8 months.
I thought that I should have made it hinged for easy changing, but they usually last several years don't they.

In some areas, blinking green means that green in the opposite direction is delayed. This allows the driver with the blinking green to turn left before the oncoming traffic proceeds. I believe a left turn arrow is much more self-evident, but does require an additional light.

Tractors are great for moving small sailboats around, Like when you need to mow under them, or you want to move it over to the fence to put a for sale sign on it
