Trivial use of tractors

Good question. I'll have to think about that. My wife has suggest an entirly new event. Syncronized driving. She envisions things like the loader wave, precision formation movements, and she also thinks a "trash can relay' would be good. I tried to explain that most of us are still working on just picking up the can, how does she expect us to hand it from one loader to the next. She thinks that would be the challange./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

there's no way I could back away without tilting my bucket back up. Oh, I'll bet you could back away without tilting your bucket./w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif in fact there is a discussion on here about just this kind of incident. Guess we'll be hearing from you soon./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I saw a fairly lengthy discussion on one of the antique tractor boards describing tractor square dancing. Our local Antique tractor club ("Sky Valley Antique Tractor Association") has a figure 8 barrel roll and a teeter totter platform for a tractor balancing contest, at their annual tractor show in August.

Well, this may not count as trivial, but here goes. As you can see in the attached picture I am moving a huge play set (getting ready to install a pool). Decided to give one half of the playset to a neighbor so I needed a way to move it across the street. As this was only my second time on a tractor, my wife was a nervous wreck. I told her I needed to buy a tractor if she wanted that pool. Sadly, she was smart enough to know that I could go rent on for the day (which is what I did). Of course, there are other things I will do while I have it (like grade a level site to place the half we are keeping - the half that accepts that big yellow tube slide) and that big area of mulch has to be moved too.

Actually, as I think about it, I seriously doubt I could. The wood side extensions on the F-450 dump are 2x12 treated lumber supported and held together by carriage bolts through 2"x1/4" angle iron which is welded to the bedsides as well as being inserted into 1/4" steel slots at each end. To change them, I'd have to remove 12 bolts per side then lift them up out of the end slots.

I might rock the truck a little but I'd bet the tractor would hang up before those sides would give way. Like so many things I do, those sides may be a bit "overbuilt." /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Piece of cake (he said, having never done it /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif). The recipient puts their FEL bucket in the full up position and the 'hander offer'' dumps the trash can into the recipient bucket.

I stand corrected. But there aint no such thing as overbuilt./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I agree. I take a good deal of ribbing about some of my projects but they only have to be done once. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Ok, but you still have to keep the can from tipping over. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Thats not trivial, that's creative! Just exactally what happens when you own a tractor. If you didn't own a tractor, how would you have approached a project like that?

I'll bet you looked at the problem and said to your self ... wonder if the loader could reach up under there. Then, I bet you slipped up there and gingerly "hefted" the thing and decided it would work and off you went.

This is why the compact tractor is the best thing since the wheel.
