Truck Restoration, Part II

Had a delay getting the truck out of the repair shop and to the body shop. We had some problems with obtaining some parts for the two speed rear axle so I only recently brought the truck home. Had it here long enough to install the fenders and take it to Temple, Texas for the big tractor, engine and truck show there last Saturday.

This past Monday I delivered it to the body shop. I went by there today to deliver some parts and take pictures. They've removed the fenders, tanks and bumper and sandblasted everything but the cab. Next step will be to repair corrosion on the fenders and knock out dents in the rest of the truck. No corrosion on the cab, just a lot of battle wounds.

Can not wait to see it done. If its only 1/2 as good as the last one you will have something to be proud of.

They're getting into the "ugly" part of the restoration. It's looking like a drowned rat now. All trim has come off in preparation for body work. Supposed to really start work on it next week. The mirrors will be replaced with a new pair of stainless steel mirrors and all unecessary holes will be welded up.

They're making a little headway now. The shop has been real busy painting oilfield trucks and they work on my truck whenever they have some spare time.

Jesse, great looking truck. Looking forward to seeing this one when finished.
I am having a similar restoration done to a 46 Ford 1 ton. Although it was fairly solid to begin with, it still takes lots of time and effort (and $$$) to get them looking good again. Cheers!

Things are starting to pick up speed now. The shop is still real busy with oil field trucks but they've assigned one worker to get the body work done. Glass man is supposed to remove the glass today. They've been working on the hood and fenders. Both fenders had large holes rusted out where the fender mounts are attached. They've cut out the rust and welded in patches. In the process now of grinding and smoothing over the patches. Looking real good so far. They estimate they'll be finished by mid-February.

Hey, JESSE1--that's one cool restoration job. I'm especially impressed by the quality of your sheet metal work (I suck at that). Right now I'm restoring a 1951 Minneapolis Moline BF tractor

so I can appreciate the satisfaction you're getting seeing your project come together.

Good luck.

Flusher, that's a real nice job you're doing on the BF. I attend several area tractor shows and there's a few of them around. I wish I had the mechanical skills to do all the work my trucks needed but I've had to leave the heavy jobs to the pros. I know I couldn't do the quality of painting this shop does, I just don't have the shop to do it in or the time to do the prep work they need. A crew of skilled workers can accomplish a lot.
