Truck tires

After putting 2 sets of BFG AT KO's on my 1500 Ram 4x4, this year I decided to try Cooper AT3 M/S tires. So far they are great in mud (clay) and wet pavement traction is better than the BFG's. Next test......drifting snow in Ohio.

The BFG's were lasting about 35K miles per set. Wet traction was not so great, but snow/mud traction was awesome.

Main reason I went away from BFG's is that they pick up so many small stones in the tread. They are beating the tar outta the underside of my truck, and running board end caps too. The coopers were 190.00 cheaper as well.

No advice for, only advice against here....I had a set of BFGoodrich all terrains on my '05 dodge cummins when i bought it used and got a lot of miles out of them. Then i put the Mastercraft Courser A/T's on and while i dont know the exact miles, its not impressive. But the worst thing is their traction on a wet grassy incline. I'm saving up now for a set of BFG A/T or Nitto Trail Grappler's.
Just my 2 cents.

The BF Goodrich tires are the best I have ever used on in the history of owning 7 pick up trucks over the past thirty years. These are the best for mud and snow, wear very well, and aren't noisy. There are some high dollar well known brand name tires that are a waste of money.

X's2 Work great on my Z71 especially. (The AT's)

Hey Brian...How ironic. I just replied and saw your post and that you were from Piqua. I'm from there but live out Versailles Rd now. If you want some snow drifts to try them out in, just run 36 West to Spiker and/or the west half of Miami-Shelby Rd. Lots of big and fun drifts.

I bought my truck from Texas and the gravel roads coupled with the BFG AT's tore up my rocker panels too. I'm going to spray them with Al's Liner pretty soon to protect the chips and change the look.

A few years ago I tried the newly released LT265/75-16E (31.7 Diameter) Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor Tires. They were excellent in mud & snow and quiet on the highway but the sidewalls flexed too much.

Then Goodyear came out with the LT265/75R-16/E1 Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor "Pro Grade" Tires. The Pro Grade Tires had stiffer sidewalls and were excellent in real mud, snow, and were quiet on the highway. They also lasted longer than the earlier SilentArmor Tires and other brands I have tried.

I live up at 8,000' in the Rocky Mountains and get real snow and mud. I regularly drive through 2' plus fresh unplowed snow and spring thaw mud while pulling my flat bed trailer. I will buy the LT265/75R-16/E1 Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor "Pro Grade" Tires when I need another set.

Cool. I have a friend with an S40. I am on my 4th Volvo personally and my immediate family has had at least 12 between 7 drivers in the last 10 years.
We have had 3 which have saved the lived of their drivers.

Great cars. My mom had 240's when I was growing up. I can remember at least 3 of them plus others in the family.

1. 240 "Turtlediesel" - Back in the 80s when we lived in Maine*
2. '84 760 Turbodiesel Sedan - Rebuilt the engine, moved to GA and an idiot plowed into it at a stoplight*
3. '84 760 Turbodiesel Sedan - My first car, had the drivetrain from the other one (which I transplanted at 14) but was taken over by sister 1 while I was at college*
4. '89 740 Turbo Wagon - What Dad drove whole I was working on the '84 drivetrain swap*
5. '98 S70 - Dads baby, until I skidded on a patch of ice, overcorrected and put it into a power pole+
6. '90 740 Turbo - Sister 1's car (after someone tboned her Civic)
7. '90ish 780 Beretone Coupe - Sister 2's car, worked great until she made a left turn in front of a SUV. Hit hard enough to break the RF rim and snap the tierod ends, she walked away+
8. '89 740 Wagon - My first car after getting back from Argentina, bought it for $700, sold it a few years later for $800*
9. '98 V70 Wagon - Replaced the late S70*
10. '88 740 Sedan - My brothers car, worked great until he fell asleep in front of the house and shredded the LF corner of the car with a tree+
11. '89 740 Sedan - Sister 2 had this one until something in the coolant system blew and she cooked the head in Iowa while driving across the county+
12. '93 940 Sedan - Sister 2 bought this one in Nebraska when the '89 740 died and ran it until the headgasket went */+ (the buyer was going to replace the headgasket)
13. '93 940 Wagon - My car, ran for a few years, decided to upgrade to a 960, put it next to the road for sale and someone hit it. They slid across the nose and their insurance company totaled it. They sent me a check and my brother, then sister 2 have owned it
14. '96 850 Turbo Wagon - Dad bought it to replace the '98 V70 ended up flipping it (ie reselling it, not rolling it over)*
15. '97 V90 (aka 960) Wagon - My current car, the best RWD wagon Volvo ever made
16. '04 V70 Wagon - Moms car (and dont forget it)

The cars with a * are no longer owned by someone in my family, but were roadworthy when sold. The cars with a + were sold for scrap or to a junkyard

Its funny how Volvos live. Two of my moms were totaled in wrecks that were not her fault and one was crushed by a tree that fell in a storm. Only thing I remember doing to any of them was replacing a power antenna on one and doing a valve cover gasket on another.
