Trying to compare dump trailers

No Bri-Mar dealers close here. Checked out some cheaper ones and found they won't dump heavy loads. I don't like to shovel. Spent the coins and got a PJ. Built very heavy and dumps anything put in it. Worse thing is the powdercoat scratching as others have said.

Although a bit of a hike from your location, check out Becks trailer sales .com in St. Johns Michigan.
These folks have over 100 trailers on the lot of all varieties and are capturing a huge share of the Michigan trailer market.
I see a lot of Brimar trailers on the road however their lifting mechanism is simple single cylinder that I understand is prone to bending if overloaded or the trailer is not exactly level when dumping. I'd look for a unit with a sisars type lift unit under the deck. My trailer has a Rugby lift mechanism and over the last 14 years has proven to be bullet proof. Also, look for grease able pivot points on the rear end.

I've got a 6x12 CAM Superline. Overall, happy with it. My only recommendation would be to go with dual rams. When picking up crushed stone I have to make sure that it's not loaded too much toward the front of the trailer. I've had times where I had to "assist" it with skid steer bucket to have it dump.

I only have 1 large ram in the center. My trailer will dump 6 tons of crushed stone ,but that's about all it will dump. I've had to assist the trailer with dumping 7 tons

I ended up ordering a 14-ft 14,000 GVW two ram Bri Mar.

http://www.bri-mar.com/trailers/dt714lp-le-14/

I wanted a trailer large enough to haul my tractor.

There has been allot of posts about bad powder coat from Bri Mar. My dealer (15 min from home) assured me this was due to poor metal prep due to a cleaning solution purification system malfunction they were unaware of.
Supposedly fixed now .... We'll see.

Should be here late next week.

Thanks for all of the feedback.

Hope all is well but every powder coated trailer I have seen ends up rusty

Having worked quality assurance if semi-conductor and aerospace, I question the malfunction excuse. But then having worked in those fields maybe I should just question the "unaware of" part. Anyway, that said, I had an 07' model Bri-Mar tandem dually with a scissors lift.

While the paint was indeed garbage, I dumped loads that were so heavy that I had to put my 97' Dodge dually with 4:10's in low range to get moving. Nor did I have an issue with the lift bending having moved several loads on site around my property.

Odonnks, I cannot tell by the website how the tailgate functions. You want to get the combination gate that will open swing door or will dump like a true dump body gate.

Check out B Wise trailers. The guy (Brian) is the original Bri (an) Mar owner, sold it and it went down hill, at least this is what I've been told. He is now back in bus. in Chambersburg PA. building these B Wise trlrs. I told a friend about them and he just orderded and recieved it (dump trailer) and is very pleased with it. They do some kind of "bath" of the steel before it is powder coated and it has a very good warranty on the finish & trlr. in general. I think my buddy said 2yrs on the finish & 5 on the trlr. They also only sell through dealers only.

They are one owner again (Bwise and Bri-Mar).

Same here, single ram in the center. It's a 5CAM612LPD, which they call a standard duty model. Payload is 9,140. I've had the max load or just a shade over in it. It'll dump with fresh battery and a properly positioned load. But I don't have control over the loader guy at the pit and a couple of times it was a tad front heavy, so I had to give 'er a little assist with the Bobcat.
I ordered it with the tarp/roller/aluminum cover and a 3 way tailgate. I recommend both of these options if someone is buying new. The tarp was nice when the wife sent me out for a load of mulch for the landscaping.
I almost went with a 10 foot model, but after measuring the Bobcat at the last minute I went with a 12. The Bobcat will go in with a little to spare on each side of the wheels, but the bucket is a tad wider so I have to set it on top of the tailgate.

Well, I didn't get a tarp or roller. Mine was used. I paid $3000.00 for it. guess I got a good deal. I've been offered my $$ back several times..... It has some type of dexter torque axles ? (I think that's what their called) No springs on the Axles. My tail gate only opens to the side It doesn't flip up like a dump truck

Be careful how hard you jack those axles with a load on them and you should be good to go. As for the gate, you may have found situations where the swing gates don't work so well. Just sayin'.
