good morning...

twice in the last 30 years i have had identity problems and it took a long time to get the issue corrected...
once, about 30 years ago, a bill collector came to my door looking for a person with the same name as mine about a $1000 bill from a doctor in houston, well i had never been to that doctor and didn't even know the address of the office or anything else. about 3 months later, we got it fixed with the collection agency....

last year i go to do a mortage on a home and find out that all of the credit reporting companies have me living in Pa. and a credit card that had not been paid on in over a year...well, here we go, two law firms and the cc company later, my atty suggested i reach a settlement with cc company(the cost of an investigation would be half of the cost of a new Cut)and the other law firm has got two of the three credit reporting co's to correct the Pa. issue. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
so now when the ask for and I D some where, I'm exteremly cautious.....theft of identification is big business, and rarely put ANY ID on the internet.....
I WOULDN"T WISH THIS SITUATION ON ANYONE>>>>>

good luck,

They keep misprinting my phone number instead of the store's phone number. When I call the store and talk to the manager they say it's corporates issue. When I call corporate I get a deer in the headlight pause and then I'm told that is not our problem. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif You want to keep a customer from buying or doing business, don't own up to your mistakes.

That might work with a toll free area code (or any area code) but when it's your regular phone number...she not work so good unless you totally want to block ALL of the phone calls.

The first mistake I can see, the second mistake I'm starting to get upset, the third mistake is not acceptable.

So many topics here. Let's see...

I never have a problem getting 10% off an implement at TSC so long as I point out the 'shipping damage' on the paint (which isn't hard to find on KK implements). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As to giving phone numbers out, I have no real problem with it as my "home" number is used exclusively for computer and fax. Everyone I know knows to call my office number which forwards to my cell number 24/7. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Regarding using social security numbers for ID, my original card specifically states it is not to be used for identification. Go figure. I tried to use that upon opening a bank account at one point just to see what would happen and was told that the bank would simply not open the account without it. Interesting, huh? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

As to allowing my ID, be it a driver's license or anything else, be photocopied, I don't. Usually I'll just say I don't have it on me rather than create a confrontation and that usually works. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Recently I found that my bank now requires me to show my DL if I buy a cashier's check or money order in an amount over $3,000 and pay cash for it. If I transfer the money out of an account I have or write a check for them, then no ID is required. If I pay cash, however, they need to see my ID even though they know me. That irritated me enough that I just refused and took a smaller amount and drove to another branch and got one there for the difference.

Apparently this new law was part of the flag wrapped "Patriot Act" ramrodded through in the wake of 9-11 under the guise of tracking terrorist payments. Yeah... right... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I do the same with my drivers license and phone # now. I just say " No Thanx". The one thing in my wallet that still had my SS number on it was my Insurance card. I had my SS # removed as my account and got a new card. Confuses the living snot out of the hospital every time /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I did not want to loose my wallet and let some unknown have my address, my DL and my SS #. Although sometimes when I am asked for my phone # I just give them yours /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Dave

This is due to change, I thought beginning 1/1/2004, that companies cannot use your SSN for any identification purposes. I just got my new health insurance id cards and the ID # is no longer my SSN. Perhaps my insurer is just ahead of the deadline.

I hadn't heard that but its about time ! I had to really pull a few teeth to get Blue Cross to change it for us. We recomended the same for all our employees as well. I have also noticed that since the privacy act has been in effect that my bank asks for my DL too. Dave

California was the first to pass such a law, and other states are considering it. Since our company (who's my insurer!) does business in CA, we had to switch. As of May, 2003, four states have passed laws prohibiting the use of the Social Security number as an identification number, and 26 states have similar legislation pending.

When ever I am asked, I just give out my work number. I figure the few hours a day I am home, the last thing I want is a phone call. I spend all day on the phone at work, thats enough. I fegure if anyplace REALY needs to call anyway, it would be during working hours, and I would not be home anyways.
