Just talked to a man this morning, about his rtv 1100, subject was spark arrestors. I told him he should take it off. He said his didn't come with one. He even asked his dealer if he taken it off, and the answer was NO ...

Did your 1100 come with a spark arrestor, wouldn't they be at the end of the tailpipe like the RTV 900's ? ( am i going crazy or what ) Or would it be in the section that goes into the muffler from the tailpipe.... I thought all RTV's comes with spark arrestors !!! Or did the factory just forget to install one ~~~~~~

I had a spark arrestor on my machine. Removed and placed in trash w/i 15 minutes of ownership. Was inside the muffler.

Made the high mount air filter today. Here are pics beginning to end. Will clean up welds and paint it tomorrow. Can be used with turbo or in stock form. Total cost about $40.

Engine stay pretty cool?

Looks nice~!

Engine Temp is normal. I installed the pyrometer bung but have not wired it yet. Will do that tomorrow. Exhaust gas Temp will be the true test. Theoretically, EGT should be lower than stock with a turbo unless the pump is cranked so high that your sending alot of unburnt fuel thru the exhaust. We'll see.

miked,

You said the spark arrestor is " IN " the muffler, does he need to take out the two bolts holding the tail-pipe on , and does it just slide out of there ?

Thats exactly what he needs to do. The spark arrestor is attached right to the tailpipe. He will need to cut it off once he removes the tailpipe.

Looks like a very nice job. I can tell, because it looks like even I could do it, and I KNOW that ain't the case! Very clean.

Have you thought about adding some insulation to the pipe to keep the pre-turbo heat (and velocity) ? How about an intercooler? Any idea on the EGT's yet?

Will know more tomorrow on EGT once I get the pyrometer wired up.

The air going in stays cold, especially now with the high mount filter, the air is traveling through a fair bit of steel pipe exposed to ambient air. I did consider an intercooler but don't know where I could put it. I thought about using a sidemount over on the intake side, but as this is an offroad machine that see's alot of mud I was worried about keeping it clean and it not getting beat up from offroading. The intercoolers are just as fragile as a radiator(or more) so it would need to be protected. Seemed like alot of hassle and I am satisfied with the setup now so I think I will leave well enough alone...for now.:D :D
