Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Turf or Ag tires for snow removal

RFB, There you go trying to use actual experience and a depth of knowledge to further your opinions! ;) ;)

Well said.

I get confused images from this thread and vacillate between thoughts of the three blind men and the elephant and someone asking what would be good to eat.

Everyone may have an opinion of what is good to eat but their opinions may differ greatly. Combinations of food, preparation, serving style, all may vary. Everyone may have a different opinion without anyone being wrong.

Of course there are a few of us who don't seem to grasp some of the basic laws of physics and are only describing their limited experience, trying to extrapolate it beyond all reason.

I'd say put one turf and one R1 Ag on the back and 1 turf and 1 R1 Ag on the front then GO!! If you go around in circles due to lack of traction, that tire (type) on the side you are circling to is the one to NOT go with and change to the other tire!!!! :D Simple nuff?!?;)

Considering the Ag tires are 2" larger in dia. than the turfs, I'd probably go in circles anyway

Youch. Do that and if the tires get traction, you'll destroy your transmission or driveline.

.

I drive off road in unplowed snow as part of my snow removal activities. I have R1s and no chains. Never been stuck enough to ever need a chain/tow.

Danno1, I do the same and had very bad experiences with turf tires until I installed chains (5 tractors ago). I now use only R1's w/o chains. It was stated earlier that if you are using a blower it doesn't matter what tires you have which is not correct in my situation where the tractor is parked in a barn down over a hill and I have to move tractor up hill to the road. I also use tractor for other things besides snow removal in the winter. So like you R1's work best for me also.

I have a B7100HST, and have both turf (filled) and ag (not yet filled, but I probably will if I use them again) wheels/tires for it. The turf are 29x12.5-15 rear with 20.5x8.0-10 fronts, while the ags, are the narrow 8-16 rears (31" in dia.), and 6-12 fronts (about 21.5 inches in dia).

The question is, which would be better for snow removal. I have a 50" rear-mount snowblower, and the FEL, and would use a combination of both. I may purchase a 5 or 6' back blade for lighter snows.

Thanks,
jas67

What am i missing? Your asking if turf tires would be better in snow than ag tires? There must be some other factors involved to even make it a question.

Since about 80-90% of us only plow a few times a year, why buy a tire based on plowing?

Base your tire decision on what you do the most. If it's snow-plowing, then base your tire decision on snow-plowing. I can tell you as a former commercial plowing contractor, R-4's plowed even the worst snowstorms adequately. Do you really think it matters all that much?

Sometimes I think you guys are mostly a bunch of ****-retentive engineers that analyze the smallest details to the point of obsession. ;)

You hit the nail squarely on the head! Maybe its just because I grew up on a farm in MI that I know this but there is no contest here folks. If your talking about grip in snow without chains then the R1's win without question.
LMAO....:D
